Dismemberment.

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 2:57 am

I love the new finishing moves, I think it will do a lot for the combat system. But I'm wondering, is there any mention of dismemberment being in the game? I'm not trying to sound like a complete psychopath but I'd like to be able to chop people up like we could in the Fallout series. Also, it would simply be awesome to hack a leg off during a fight and be able to leave our opponent screaming on the ground, or (if we feel like it) finish the job and put him/her out of their misery.

I'm assuming finishing moves would include some sort of dismemberment, Unless all finishing moves are only stabs to the chest right?

Can't have vikings/barbarians Nord Warriors if you can't lob off limbs left and right!

I hope we do, but not to FO's extent... really, keep it subtle and only on occasion if you hit the right spot with the right amount of damage, when its already wounded!

Indeed. Again, I'm not asking for the same level of gore. But hacking an arm off in mid-combat would be awesome. Leaving your enemy clutching his bloody stump or in the case of more hard-core enemies, still comes at you (ala Lord of the Rings orcs).

I hope so, but I hope it's toggleable. Maximum gore, little gore (just some blood splurts), and no gore.

But I do hope I can sweep someone off their feet (and knees) with my war axe. :D

I hope not too, it doesn't fit the Elder Scrolls games, and I don't see why everybody loves to see gore so much, it's a bit disturbing.

I beg to differ, Fallout 3 & New Vegas' Dismemberment got old within minutes, in fact, I use mods to remove it.

i would rather it just to be blood and maybe cuts but no hacking off pieces, it really wouldn't fit.

The whole having people not die from dismemberment might be a little much. If they did it with Zombies and had them drag themselves towards you would be pretty awesome.

Dismemberment would be nice but not done as ridiculously as in FO3. As has been said, only on rare occasions should limbs fly off, like if you're constantly hacking at a particular part of an enemy's body.

I also like the idea of enemies still being alive after they lose a non-vital limb (arm, leg) and screaming while clutching the blood-spouting stump, where as in FO3 enemies losing a limb meant instant death. And different types of enemies would have different reactions to losing a limb. A low-level elf or Imperial would stagger off, giving you the option to finish them or leave them be, while a giant, barbaric Nord warrior may just become enraged and start swinging wildly at you with his remaining arm.

You're wrong. It didn't take minutes, it took a couple of dismemberments/explosions. You don't see any till you leave the doc's house :nono:
9mm making heads is explode lolwut.

Well, the head of course. And I'm not very familiar with anatomy, but isn't there some massive vein in the upper leg that leads to near instant death if it's severed?

Hacking off peckers would just be cruel :P

Fallout 3 and NV gore was over the top. I have to agree with people on that. But it should still be in Skyrim, just not as easy to do. You shouldn't be able to decapitate someone with a dagger, but if you use an Battle Axe the size of a small child. Body parts are going to come off.
Mostly Im hoping that there will be at least visual damage to enemies.

ya actually when you're swinging a 10 pound axe head a someones arm that're a good chance it comes off... or even then a 40 inch blade across someones neck (beasts neck) I would imagine a good chance of it coming off.

my sentiments exactly, and seeing as how the prior two fallout games had it and its been already part of the nif system, i dont see why it wouldnt be further developed and refined.

It's almost immersion breaking when you hit something with a huge axe and it falls to the ground in one piece. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of using the big axe.
