Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding

Hi all

Been playing Fallout 4 for about 4 hours now, but all of a sudden, I'm getting a weird crash issue.

I'm in the underground where the vault is, to rescue/find the detective guy

But every few minutes, all of a sudden my monitor will go blank and enter standby mode

The game has obviously crashed or stopped, as there's no noises, but if I hit a few keys, I can hear the windows sounds in the background

If I press the power button, the machine shuts down normally, I reboot, windows starts to load, but then the same thing happens again, monitor goes into standby, then the machine reboots itself

It then comes back ok and I can use it normally

Event viewer has two messages, which say:

1) Application Fallout4.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.

followed by:

2) Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Someone suggested downgrading my nvidia drivers, which I did, to 358.58 and disabling Vsync, but that actually made it worse, I fired up fallout, the video screen appeared (Vault cog/music), then it did the same thing again before the main menu came up.

My Spec:

Intel i7-5820K

8gb of ram

Nvidia GTX 970
