Displayed Damage of Weapons

Post » Thu Sep 03, 2009 6:48 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew for sure whether or not the damage shown on weapons depended on the skill level of your character?

I've picked up several Daedric Axes and other blunt weapons and despite being Daedric or Ebony quality, they seem to only do 7 damage.

My character specializes in Blade, of course, and has like 15 skill in Blunt.

Could it be mod related, the display of lower damage?

Or is it a normal game thing, if my skill goes up, so too does the damage displayed on the weapon?

I'm guessing that could be possible, depends on which mods you're using.

IIRC that's how it's done in Morrowind -- if you find a new sword, the damage figures are the damage you'd be able to do, based on your related attributes and skills.

However, UESP lists a Daedric war axe as doing 22 damage, even though they specify that the figures are used just for the site, and not based on what's actually seen in the game. However, 22 damage sounds really familiar for all of my characters (whether they could use the axe or not), so I'm guessing that the damage amount is just the weapon's base damage, not how much damage you'd be able to do with it. If that's the case, then seeing a lesser amount would probably be due to a mod.

I'm not at all positive though, just been wondering the same thing since you brought it up.

Yes, both damage and armor rating are determined by your skill, your related attribute values and inherent weapon/armor quality. The damage you see is the damage YOUR character will do with that weapon.

This. Your weapon skill plus your strength, plus weapon itself. I suspect that the site used a warrior with a blunt skill at 100, and a strength of 100 to get that damage number.

The number listed in the Wiki is just base damage for the weapon itself with no other factors considered. With 100 strength and 100 weapon skill the damage output ingame will be nearly 20% higher. Add in a 75+ Armorer skill repairing the weapon to 125% condition for even more damage. With everything nearly perfect I've gotten a Perfect Madness Claymore up to 33 damage ingame. With the last few points in blade skill it should've been doing 34-35 damage. It's base damage in the Wiki is 27.

I think the wiki just uses the numbers found in the Construction Set when you look up weapons.
