Divine Resurrection?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:39 am

I've given a lot of thought to something that is given a thought and usually shrugged off. I'm not saying anything I'm about to put down is any better than anything ever put forth before, either. I am indeed no true lore buff, but this thought has occurred to me, and I wish to share it.

I find it rather odd how when catastrophe strikes Nirn, a hero is always there to either mitigate or negate it completely. In Arena, when Emperor Septim was imprisoned in a prison dimension of some kind, a hero, came forth. And then disappears. I'm not so sure about Daggerfall, but I do know that he does indeed disappear, as well. Morrowind, the hero was born, imprisoned, saved Morrowind, and disappeared. And as the pattern goes, Born, Imprisoned, and most assuredly will disappear when the next game rolls around.

Firstly, I find it extremely plausible that this is an attempt at avoiding fan-anger, but at the same time, I'd much rather have a lore/Elder Scrolls-like explanation.

So, my standing theory is that maybe each hero is a divinely resurrected champion, maybe a soul-successor to an ancient hero such as Pelinor Whitestrake. It could honestly be any one of such possibly numerous saviors, but his is the first name that pops to mind, as his task was quite similar in type to things the Player, as a hero, does.

And I can really state that I am no expert of the "Chim" concept, but I did find this:

From the Ehlnofex: an ancient sigil connoting 'royalty', 'starlight', and 'high splendor'

So is it possible that the resurrected hero is the soul of a previous being that attained this "Chim"?

As always, I leave myself with more questions than answers.

Well, a person with CHIM is (in my understanding) above death, so i dont think that really works. I think what youre getting at is mantling, though it doesn't really work in Pelinal's case imo (being that he was himself a splinter of a god). I suppose that it is possible that all the heroes are echoes of eachother, but i find that a bit boring, as it sort of dooms them.

Muthsera,

What you, as the OP, are implying has merit in general form, although the specifics and minutiae of end result may be of some debate. I will, upon the Grace and Benevolence of JHUNAL, who incants the Damned Equation (see http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/), point out the following exerpts from various sources that seem, at first, to be unrelated, however when taken together connect an idea. And as Vehk and Vehk have stated, ideas in a world of myth and magic can be so real as to be dangerous (http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/vehk_teaching.shtml#3).

1. "Every event is preceded by a prophecy, but without the Hero, there is no event." (http://www.imperial-library.info/tsomw/mw_1.shtml)

2. "And Talos said to the Arctus, 'Let us join as one to fortify this throne, this land, these people, each one glorious under heaven!'" (http://www.imperial-library.info/tsoo/kotn01a.shtml)

3. "And after the throne of Alinor did finally break at the feet of Men, and news of it came to the Dragon Emperor in Cyrodiil, he gathered his captains and spoke to them, saying: "'You have suffered for me to win this throne, and I see how you hate jungle. Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now, in royalty, and reshape this land which is mine. I do this for you, Red Legions, for I love you.'" (http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/many-headed_talos.shtml)

4. "CHIM. Those who know it can reshape the land. Witness the home of the Red King Once Jungled." (http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/mythic_dawn_commentaries.shtml#3)

May the Light of JHUNAL illuminate your searches, for I remain...

Yours in the Scrolls,

The player characters are able to resurrect when dead, in a sense - by loading the last save game. They're even able to go back in time and change their very race and gender, or alter the events of history up to a certain point. In that way, what they have is very similar to CHIM.
