DLC - add back-mounted TX-28 MicroFusion Pack

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:28 pm

In one of the DLCs, please add the ability to obtain a back-mounted TX-28 MicroFusion Pack for use with power armor so we don't have to be tethered to fusion cells and don't have to worry about running out of power in the middle of combat. The increased power output of the microfusion pack should also increase strength and negate any speed and agility penalties. In other words, with the microfusion pack you should be able to move while wearing power armor as quickly as you would not wearing power armor. Since all armor is now based on the same frame, this should apply to all power armor.

It would also be great to add the ability to chemically harden power armor pieces, increasing resistance to all forms of damage to the point that we can ignore anything less than energy weapons and heavy kinetic weapons. If a few raiders can catch you in a crossfire and whittle your armor's HP to nothing with just machine guns, what's the point of power armor?

Of course, these upgrades wouldn't come easily so I'd expect a supremely awesome storyline to go with them.

If you want to be "untouchable" (which is what it sounds like to me), then just turn down the difficulty to super-duper-hello-kitty-mode and become a virtual god. ;)

Jeez, isn't Power Armor overpowered enough as-is?

The whole point of power armor is to give the operator an overwhelming advantage. That's what made it so special before Fallout 3 - you busted your hump to get it, but once you did you were on par with the super mutants and would get a laugh out of raiders who were unfortunate enough to to run afoul of you.

Yes, in previous games, it was hard to come by.
However, in this game it is handed out like Halloween candy. ;)

So...it has to have some balance.

If you had to get out of your armor to insert a new fusion core then I could see this.

Until power armor is portrayed the way it was in Fallout 1 & 2, it's underpowered and you can barely see how it would be deemed ready for deployment on a battlefield. At least in Fallout 3 the armor wasn't dependent upon fusion cells and wasn't portrayed as slow and quite so vulnerable.

In their haste to tell me why (in their esteemed opinions) I'm wrong, no one seems to be reading to the bottom of my first post, so here.

Please do not take it as anybody saying that your opinion is "wrong", or mine (or other's) are "right".
Opinions are just that...opinions.
And, this forum is just for friendly discussion of those opinions.

Yeah, but it's kind of silly that you can change them out while in the suit when it's so obvious when you do it from outside that there's no way you'd be able to do if from inside!

There will also be many Mods that will add many features to power armor as well.
Perhaps you could even make your own...just the way you want/like it. :D

That's why the upgrades shouldn't come without some heavy-duty adventuring; they should be extremely difficult to get.

I dunno, as is I never run out of juice since the cores are so abundant. What I would like is other uses for fusion cores besides armor. I also wouldn't mind an upgrade to make power armor more lore abiding since it doesn't change anything anyways.

The only real change I would like to make to power armor is that I would like the HUD color to change to match the color you set your pipboy to, or have it's own settings in the options menu.
I cannot see the HUD in power armor with the amberish color they chose to use.

I notice the same issue with the pipboy though too. I've tried several colors, but it seems like I can only see it clearly if I'm in the shade. If my character is in the sun and everything is brighter, then I can't see diddly.

Edit: I didn't remember the issue on Xbox One, but on PC I do..

Edit 2: That's pretty cool if you use the Xbox nickname it "corrects" the spelling lol

Maybe try adjusting your main gamma setting just a little bit?
Or, contrast?

I have two TV's that are the same make & model sitting right next to each other for gaming & watching Netflix at the same time. (32" Vizio LCD-3D)
I play on PS4 on both.
But, I have noticed I have to set color settings differently on each to get the same "look" for games.

I did just buy a new 1440p monitor so I may have to fiddle with the settings. Thanks for the advice!

I dont really use the power armour much... It's just more fun without it..

Power armour was cool in the previous games, but it's kinda boring in FO4... Good thing there are so many other cool things, to do and see :D

If they did add an unlimited fusion pack, it should be balanced by a heat management system. Basically the fusion gauge would change to a heat gauge. All AP draining actions would instead cause the geat level to rise. The suit would have a built-in heatsink to cool off the PA. If you quickly heat up te suit and need to quickly cool it off you could use a "cryo-core" to cool it back to 0 heat. Just an idea...

That's a six-of-one half-dozen of the other kind of "balance". Applying Mass Effect's weapons cooling mechanism to power armor is the same thing as needing to change out power cores. You're still hampered by the need to manage something.

All I'm advocating is giving players the opportunity to go on some adventures/quests and end up with a suit of power armor that is as close as possible to the traditional portrayal of power armor, which never had management issues.

Power armor never made anyone invulnerable, but it did put you beyond being concerned with small-time threats such as raiders armed with rifles and hand guns, and gave you the confidence to take on the super mutants and robots, without the need to manage power or heat or anything but repairing damage from heavy weapons.

There are mods for that if you truly just want to have infinite fusion cores, but me? I kind of prefer the armor as it is. Fusion cores are already easy peasy to pile up and power armor itself is plenty OP. If you don't think power armor is strong as it is, try running a survival mode "Dead is Dead" run without keeping your power armor up and running. Power armor makes a huge difference.

Just go with the Silver Shroud Costume. It is the closest item to Fallout 3 Power Armor with its almost identical Damage Resistance and Radiation Resistance and it gives stat bonuses. Plus it has the added benefit of not having interesting mods like Jetpacks, customizable headlights, and Stealth fields which makes it just like traditional Power Armor. Also, you don't need to get out of your armor to sleep or sit down just like traditional Power Armor.

Power armor in Fallout 3 and NV was terrible. The Fallout games you're describing are 1 and 2.

I am referring to F1 & F2 PA (though F3 PA is still better than F4's twist on PA) which is why I said "That's what made it so special before Fallout 3"
