DLC Consequences, Game Death Date and Crytek's failure

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:47 am

Crysis 2 is almost dead. It has a Death date: 10.25.2011. Battlefield 3 release date.

Why? Well, If I could explain all Crytek's failures, I would need 10 paragraphs.

And now we have a "Free to Play" DLC, with a absurd overpowered weapon and some maps we could grab on C2 release date, it was already made at that point. We now have 2 groups of players:

1. Who bought the DLC, is killing everyone with his OP weapon and enjoying Crysis 2.

2. People who didn't buy the DLC, are getting mad with the OP weapon and quitting the game.

My point is: The game isn't almost dead. It's dead.

Even if they make the DLCs free, I think it's dead.

Total lifetime: 03.22.2011 - 10.25.2011

7 months and 3 days.

Yea I don't even want to play anymore myself and it's a double XP weekend! I supported the game and bought the DLC bother of them, but NOBODY is playing it! Damn, I guess they threw it out there to get the last few $$$ before it all goes down.

Only really experienced good players are playing, or cheaters and hackers. This game has lost its momentum and FUN!

800 players online at the moment. The only AAA title ive seen do worse than Crysis 2 was Aliens vs Predator 2010.. and that game **** svcked and completely flopped. I did enjoy Crysis 2 considerably more than AvP2010 but this game has such a small playerbase and following it really hurts the variety Crysis 2 potentially has with its game modifiers and such.

The latest DLC did something ive never seen DLC do before and thats hurt the community that chooses not to purchase it. If I had to guess I would say that about 5-10% of players in Crysis 2 have purchased at least the second DLC.

Honestly within a few months this game will only have a few devoted fans left. Custom maps and DX11 arnt going to save this game. They are coming far too late after release and after ridiculous DLCs.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but it's been dead for over 2 months now. It took a little over 2 weeks for the Steam users playing this game to drop below 1000. More people are playing Medal of Honor than Crysis 2. It's sad really.

It's a rather nice game. Sure the release was bad, but I don't think it should be completely dismissed like that. Few people are playing it on consoles too.

The DX11 patch...might help. But when only like ~10% of PC gamers have systems capable of properly handling DX11, I don't see the beenfit there.

Crysis 2 isnt even in the top 100 games for Steam users now. Thats less than 294 players who have the game linked with Steam. According to C2Stats the game has 796 players as of right now.

Games that are more popular..

Football Manager 2009 <- lolwut (870+)
Portal (880+)
Plants vs Zombies (950+)
Borderlands (1,300+)
Left 4 Dead (1,600+)
Killing Floor (1,700+)
Modern Warfare 2 single player (1,800+)
Black Ops single player (3,300+)
Portal 2 (4,300+)
BFBC2 (5,990+)
Left 4 Dead 2 (11,000+)
Black Ops multiplayer (12,800+)
Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer (13,000+)

Whats really sad is Crysis 2 actually had a decent sized playerbase at one point. Its pretty fair to say more than half the people who own it have stopped playing by now.
