DLC Decision

Post » Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:12 am

I've not had anytime for anything but work for about 2 months, I've got the week off and I'm going to spend at least one day just playing Xbox. I've decided to kick this off with some new content and there are only two DLCs for this game I don't have: Mothership Zeta and The Pitt. Here is my dilemma: Mothership Zeta sounds like it has much more new gear that appeals to me but The Pitt sounds like it has more play time and a better storyline but is [censored] amounts of glitchy even by FO3 standards. So in true Roman fashion I'll let the people decide.

I would get The Pitt played both DLCs and I found The Pitt more enjoyable.

The Pitt has a lot of new weapons too, most of them you get for finding all of the Ingots. Also, The Pitt isn't all that buggy to be honest, at least in my experience. The Pitt is definitely the way to go. It has a good storyline, good moral dilemmas, and an absolutely stunning looking environment if you're into that kind of "decaying city" style. It can also last you longer than Zeta. Zeta, well, it's nothing like Fallout 3. It's a linear FPS and the only good thing about it is the loot. It's the only DLC I thought was terrible. You should definitely play The Pitt before Zeta, because you could blow through Zeta in just a few short hours, while The Pitt is a good deal longer.

I have not downloaded Mothership Zeta, and don't intend to. For me, the locations in Fallout 3 that I dislike the most are vaults. All the corridors look the same and I lose my bearings so easily. From what I've read, MZ is just a long series of vault-like corridors shooting comedy generic aliens, with minimal questlines. Sure, the weapons you can get there are good but that's about it.

I voted for The Pitt. I've done this and absolutely loved it, even if it is a bit bleak in places. It has a great main questline, new weapons, characters, equipment and enemies. Also some morally grey decisions will need to be made. Its also got one of the best energy weapons in the game, a weapon that I've only recently started to truly appreciate - the Metal Blaster.

You know what you need to do. :)

I really enjoy Mothership Zeta but I also think The Pitt is very good. The Pitt has lots of new armor types and some fun new weopons and zeta has some very nice weopons and epoxy. I like the NPC's in Zeta and I think the environment looks nice. It does have some odd bugs where things don't trigger when they should. Pitt story line is cool and you get the ingot hunt which adds a bit more to the content.

If I had choose for you, it would be the Pitt :)

Personal reviews on the two.

The Pitt
+ Fits Fallout themes very well.
+ Beautiful scenery with raider theme.
+ Things are not what they look like.
+ Well thought story with true grey/grey morality.
+ Interesting loot, not overpowered high-tech crap but makeshift, adequate armors and weapons with a few really good ones.
+ Lot of characters that have something to say
- ... although those who have something than just a few lines are scarce.
- Probably the shortest DLC if you know what you're doing.
- Enemies. There are no critters and hostiles that pose any more a threat than annoy you and cost you a few bullets.

Mothership Zeta
+ Space scenery
+ Interesting characters, especially the pre-war ones.
+ Dialogue is a huge improvement over default Fallout 3 and previous DLC.
+ The Mothership is huge and there is a lot to explore.
+ Mainly non-stop combat but with breaks spiced up with dialogue.
+ Two good pistols, unscoped .44 and Plasma.
- Makes no sense
- Does not fit Fallout lore
- Bullet sponge enemies get old really fast.
- The huge maze the Mothership is will make a perfectionist player frustrated quickly as finding all the loot is hard.
- Mothership gets locked up after you beat it - only a very small portion of it will be accessible.

Overall, neither of them is bad, but The Pitt is generally superior. However, the Pitt's shortness has always annoyed me and I rarely play it despite its magnificent setting. It gets old fast. But if I had to choose at gunpoint, I'd go for The Pitt.
