DLC "Exclusive"?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:00 pm

The only thing that strikes me as a bit shady here is the timing of the announcement. At this point profiteering corporations colluding with "exclusive" promotions is something everyone should be used to, but to announce it the day before release? Some people's orders will have already shipped out and can't be changed, or can't be changed easily, at least.

S'not just what the content amounts to (nobody knows yet, it could add a gun rack of new weapons and a locker full of the best looking outfits designed by the wardrobe department of Mad Max) but the timing of the announcement. Would you have sat at the first table if you knew sitting down elsewhere would have gotten you a greater variety of options? You've already sat down and ordered your meal, and then the owner comes and offers up extras that exclude you.

I can understand the resentment from that perspective at least. I know most gamers these days own multiple platforms, given the info beforehand they may well have ordered the 360 version instead of the PS3 or PC.

I don't care, but I empathise.

Yes I would actually, because - if related to this context - the first table had the most comfy chair and utensils that best fit in my hand. The extras will be relatively small (it is a DLC afterall), and even if I were (am) excluded I wouldn't call the owner a [censored] and cancel my meal. :P

Anyway, I can empathise but I can't understand to which proportions this has been raised.

Taking action such as what? Voting with your wallet?

Hes hurting himself. You can't rent a game forever. If he wants to do this then, more power to him. But when Blockbuster calls and wants there game back, he will be pretty upset.

I agree why didn't Bethesda wait a couple days afterwards to announce this. They won't lose money over this but they will tick off some hardcoe fans. I'm not ticked off I'm netural on this whole issue.

Honestly, I just don't care. After the unpolished drivel we got for Fallout 3 I can't say that I'd even bother with the DLC for New Vegas, anyway. I know it's Obsidian working on NV, and I'd love to support them more since I enjoy their games, but I have yet to play a single DLC pack that I felt was worth what I paid for it.

I admit to being a little disappointed since I though days of Xbox exclusives and/or first in DLC was going the way of the dodo bird. But life goes on and I will get over it. I'm sure we will eventually get everything that Xbox'ers will get to enjoy first although I will keep my fingers crossed just in case.

The obvious difference is that one is legal and the other isn't.

Quite a difference that.

Why does it seem like people are okay with corporations screwing over consumers using legal means, but not consumers screwing over corporations using legal means?

Well, this has helped me decide which of my 2 pre-order receipts to keep. I had an Xbox copy pre-ordered along with a PC copy also pre-ordered, so I guess I'll be collecting my Xbox copy come Friday.

Like your style. Personally I own both platforms but just can't man console control methods on games like Fallout. Too slow, every aspect of it is too slow for me. I just feel a bit sorry for those folks who pro-ordered their PC/PS3 Collector's Editions, only to see another platform given priority when it comes to content. They can't exactly send back their CE's and have them replaced by a unit for the 360. They're CE's, they're sold out.

I'll wait for further info til I adjust my trust in Bethesda level. Right now it looks like it's just the same deal as with F3 - 360 first, DLC in rapid succession on PS3 some time later, PC unchanged. I don't like this, but I can manage.

Everyone, we need to calm down. I understand your hurt. But if we pull all of our money from Bethesda and their investments, they will only shy away from us and end up catering to those willing to pay, IE X Box 360 users.

So keep funding them so we can be treated like garbage anyways? Tons of 360 users pirate games, I see it constantly on the many Videogame forums I frequent. A new game is coming out, it leaks on the 360 like it always does, and thousands of people pirate it. I could see 360 leaked videos on Youtube where the poster linked the torrent in the description for christ sake. I don't think it matters one way or another, but I choose not to support a company who has decided not to support me as well. Turn about is fair play.

Remember guys (I hate to mini mod) talking about piracy is forbidden.

I hate to repeat myself but Bethesda will release DLC for all 3 systems you just gotta have patience. Go get New Vegas tonight, tommorrow, or the 22nd. You will enjoy the game and you will forget about this talk about DLC. Its not exclusive all 3 systems will have it in place eventually.

Bethesda can do what they wish. This game will be a rent only to me until its on steam as a GOTY collection for dirt cheap. bethesda can keep their microsoft friends for as long as they wish.

Microsoft must lay down big money to get exclusives.
Bethesda have sold out a large chunk of users for the $$$ again.

These type of exclusives are what rendered GT4 worthless for the playstation market.

Maybe some of it is. But alot it is us being generally like a nest of hornets some knucklehead hit with a stick. Thats how we feel with the whole PS3,Xbox360,PC + Microsoft+ Bethesda= 360 wins out equation has us furious or hurt. (Im more hurt than mad)

@Indulge- Once again, I have to agree. It is his loss. Are we mad? Yes. Is this unfair? Yes. Will this solve anything? No. In my opinion, it might end up increasing Microsofts profits, because if all PS3 users boycott Bethesda, they will start catering exclusively to Microsoft customers. So am I upset? Yes. Do I think boycotting is the smart course of action? Not in the least.

If PS3 owners boycott when the numbers of copies sold goes in to Bethesda they'll just be like: "Oh look, we wasted our time developing for PS3 since very few copies sold. We're not getting return on investment and we're losing money on that side. We shouldn't bother with DLC and perhaps we ought to pull the plug on the PS3 versions for future Fallout games." It won't help anything.

We have the same views, Martyr. I am upset about this and I'm not even affected. I wish that Sony would pay more money. But look at it this way, maybe this DLC will svck.

However, I believe its more important to be upset ( Not Mad ) at Sony rather Bethesda. After all, Sony didn't pay and MS did.

This man speaks the truth, They're always going to side with the company who pays them the most money and that will never be Steam. I wonder if it's possible to get my money back from Steam?

I disagree I don't think that the majority of their money comes from the 360. The PC has always had an advantage over the consoles because of Modding. You guys can rent the game if you want to but I'm gonna buy it, I support Bethesda I just hope they know what they are doing and what they are getting themselves into.

Which is precisely my point. It's a shame these things occur, I feel it really creates a rift in the community.

@Indulge- In a way I agree, but that [censored] is expensive. IIRC, Microsoft spent around 50-75 Million for GTA DLC rights. :bonk:

PS3 users don't get one little DLC (and, btw, we don't even know what the DLC is going to be about) and suddenly they're canceling preorders and vowing to never play a Bethesda/Obsidian game ever again...pathetic. *namecalling removed don't do that* he game isn't even out yet and you're already judging it by DLC that doesn't come out until December.

That same logic could be used to justify all sorts of bad things. Like extortion.

Not to say this situation is extortion, but I'm hesitant to call that logic valid when it can be applied to anything of moral import and give back a terrible situation.

From the wording of GStaffs post on the subject, the very first DLC will be exclusive to XBox. Permanently from the way it is written. You can find the post at then end of the first thread or in the first couple of this one.
