DLC "Exclusive"?

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:43 am

Your loss.

His loss for getting his money back and still getting to play the game on release through a rental while not supporting the same company that chose to marginalize him? Yeah, that makes sense.

it's a bit ridiculous though - you're complaining you can't play some DLC which hasn't even been released yet on a game that hasn't even been released yet. Excuse me, but WTF?

Is this what it's like in the mens dressing room before a big football game? Is this PRT? (Pre-Release tension?) :whistling:

you know one problem with this is the game is out and being played by tons of people most of them are 360 owners who pirated the game and a select handful are people like me who got it early by chance. Im just angry that again Bethesda is screwing ps3 owners, last time it was with some joke ports of DLC that was incredibly broken on our system and now the 360 gets exclusive DLC for the holidays. Its ridiculous, It makes me wonder what they have in mind for Brink and Hunted and how they will screw me over yet again.

Considering this happened to fallout 3, NV, and MW2 which were all big releases, I'm sure it gets tiring.

yes it does.

But are we talking about "an extended menu with fantastic new food'n stuff" here? In this context that sounds like an expansion rather than a DLC. A DLC would be like offering a different flavored ketchup. This thing is completely out of proportion. :P

S'not just what the content amounts to (nobody knows yet, it could add a gun rack of new weapons and a locker full of the best looking outfits designed by the wardrobe department of Mad Max) but the timing of the announcement. Would you have sat at the first table if you knew sitting down elsewhere would have gotten you a greater variety of options? You've already sat down and ordered your meal, and then the owner comes and offers up extras that exclude you.

I can understand the resentment from that perspective at least. I know most gamers these days own multiple platforms, given the info beforehand they may well have ordered the 360 version instead of the PS3 or PC.

I don't care, but I empathise.

Meh, this svcks big balls. This was actually the first game this year that I was going to fully support, i.e. buy the game and its upcoming DLCs (I'm not cancelling my pre-order - this game deserves to be bought unlike 95% of the game garbage that keeps coming out every year). Personally I detest DLCs as a method of making mindless buyers shell out cash for small pathetic packs of clothes, armor, or 2-3 new weapons instead for money-worthy and well-made expansions. I hope this is a timed one. But, nevertheless, this svcks A LOT!

no good news for pc users, thanks bethesda!
for me this means only one thing: buying not one pc dlc and get them all with the new vegas goty edition for pc as soon the goty is fallen in price.

No, his loss for being like this on a topic that we have NO control over. Sure voice your opinion and do it in a civil manor, but taking action such as this is down right ridiculous.

Maybe some of it is. But alot it is us being generally like a nest of hornets some knucklehead hit with a stick. Thats how we feel with the whole PS3,Xbox360,PC + Microsoft+ Bethesda= 360 wins out equation has us furious or hurt. (Im more hurt than mad)

@Indulge- Once again, I have to agree. It is his loss. Are we mad? Yes. Is this unfair? Yes. Will this solve anything? No. In my opinion, it might end up increasing Microsofts profits, because if all PS3 users boycott Bethesda, they will start catering exclusively to Microsoft customers. So am I upset? Yes. Do I think boycotting is the smart course of action? Not in the least.

I GECKulate that the pre-release packs have been as much a burden to the producers as they are a reward for pre-orders at the moment. :)

Primarily, the buy it 'used' (pirated) crowd.

Ha. What?

I mean I know that developers and publishers don't see a dime from used sales, but you consider that piracy?

Okay.

Not really. If some new information comes out in the weeks following release that explains everything and it suddenly becomes clear that everyone overreacted to absolutely nothing, then we're all free to take the money we saved and to purchase a new copy of the game. However, I find this outcome to be somewhat unlikely.

Remember guys (I hate to mini mod) talking about piracy is forbidden.

I hate to repeat myself but Bethesda will release DLC for all 3 systems you just gotta have patience. Go get New Vegas tonight, tommorrow, or the 22nd. You will enjoy the game and you will forget about this talk about DLC. Its not exclusive all 3 systems will have it in place eventually.

Yeah, I don't understand why we're not supposed to sell used games like any other product. Oh yes, we "license" games, we don't buy them. But then they shouldn't cost $60.

Well to be truthful I was a little upset over this news, yet again the PS3 users have been shafted. I am thinking that us PS3 owners have tainted money. Why would a company like Bethesda go with Microsoft on a DLC exclusive? its just plain dumb. I could understand the base game being exclusive but a DLC, come on Bethesda get with the program. I guess that Bethesda like most others does not care or listen to the very people who made them. If it was not for us (the gamers) then they would have bitten the dust a long time ago. It would be silly of me to say I will not buy the game, but you Bethesda have lost more respect. And that Bethesda is something you cannot afford in this day and age.

We will be handing out warnings for autocensor bypasses and for console/platform bashing and for flaming individuals such as Bill Gates or Pete Hines or one another. So just don't do it. You want to bash the companies as a whole, go for it but don't point to individuals. :toughninja:

Don't know what Bill Gates has to do with it. AFAIK he doesn't even "own" Microsoft any more and he's not the CEO either. Nor has he anything to say about anything other than maybe being on the BoD. Just saying

That's not really news per se, since we've known about it forever.

This, meanwhile, is news, since it happened today.

And I still think it's an absolutely terrible business decision.

Edit:

I hate to repeat myself but Bethesda will release DLC for all 3 systems you just gotta have patience. Go get New Vegas tonight, tommorrow, or the 22nd. You will enjoy the game and you will forget about this talk about DLC. Its not exclusive all 3 systems will have it in place eventually.

It's more the principle of it. Why should the PS3 and PC users have to wait six months to a year for the DLC that the Xbox got at Christmas, going by the past exclusivity agreement? It's a show of disrespect to the non-xbox customers; vaguely akin to peeing on them while they wait patiently for the winsauce that is New Vegas.

The timing of this is also terrible. If you're going to announce that you're fisto!-ing two thirds of your consumer base without lubricant like this, the smart thing to do would be to wait until they've bought the game and then announce it. At least that way you'll get their money, rather than prompting folks to cancel their preorder and rent the game instead, like we've had several do already in this very thread.

yeah i know. we give them the same support as the 360 users and we get excluded from content.

its like the 360 is bethesdas prized natural born, and the Ps3 and PC are its unloved step children

From the publishers' and developers' point of view it is equal, thus Steam and Project Ten Dollars (EA's plan to give day one DLC for free for the original buyer and sell it for $10 for used game buyers). The obvious difference is that one is legal and the other isn't.

As for this news  Personally i like all DLCs for Fallout 3, it is a shame if this one is indeed an exclusive, but nothing worth starting raging over.

Everyone, we need to calm down. I understand your hurt. But if we pull all of our money from Bethesda and their investments, they will only shy away from us and end up catering to those willing to pay, IE X Box 360 users.

Well, this has helped me decide which of my 2 pre-order receipts to keep. I had an Xbox copy pre-ordered along with a PC copy also pre-ordered, so I guess I'll be collecting my Xbox copy come Friday.
