DLC outside of the USA?

Post » Thu Jun 20, 2013 9:44 pm

Here is what I have to say on it... For the longest time I've been against any FO setting that was outside of North America; I still feel that it should only be that way ~however... In the case of optional DLC I do see an option.

The option would be a Vault constructed for military brass and their families, and have it someplace off the coast near Italy ~ like http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Pianosa+italy&sll=30.032996,-89.882563&sspn=0.503501,0.917358&vpsrc=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1445842-dlc-outside-of-the-usa/0&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Pianosa&t=m&z=13 for instance. /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I feel that this might be able to work as it could plausibly depict a pocket US (inside an almost Spaghetti Western) setting; replete with the 50's-esque attitude and iconic imagery ~like B52 bomber husks*, and power armor with pre-war pin-ups on the pauldrons [user customized, and they could get away with it for being so far from the States]. As DLC it would be an enclosed adventure ~possibly just a unique island, though it could have other options like a submarine or another Rivet City style settlement... It's easy to extrapolate this stuff.

If done well then I'd probably like it. I think the potential is there ~though easily missed, but it could be good if done well. I think that what matters is the people and the environment they create, not the actual location of the dirt underfoot.

That's my opinion.

*[Meaning their future equivalents not actual B-52's ~though maybe... why not?]

Alaska.

I'm sick of all these deserts and barren wastes.
Are you telling me there is no cool temperate climates anymore?

I like the ideas for a military base somewhere. But id lean towards mexico or south america. Contiguous with the. Us,so it would he somewhat easy to get to from the west coast..

I would still really like to see the resource wars idea that JE talked about a while back come to fruition.

As I said before, Canada and Mexico would be the only places outside of America that would work (possibly Cuba if the game is set in Florida) because Fallout is based on 1950s America's vision of the future only nuked to hell. Canada and Mexico were apart of the United States in Fallout. Canada being mentioned in every single Fallout to date, with Canadian characters as well. Fallout 3 even said Vaults were built in Canada and Mexico if I remember right. Canada for sure thow.

America several years before the Great War told the UN to go to hell and closed its boarders. The UN then fell apart. It no longer had international obligations or military bases. What with the worlds oil supply gone it would have no reason to be overseas. The rest of the world also fell apart. The nations of Europe turning on the Middle East and then on one another. America's influence and therefore culture wouldn't be all over the world. America's tech such as PA, robots, and energy weapons wouldn't be either given when they were created, which was in the few years before the Great War.

There would also be no connection to any factions or places we already know. There is so much left of America to see and that includes Canada and Mexico.

I am starting to think Bethesda should make a Spinoff Series to Fallout.

Why? Cause there seems to be this demand for Fallout to be set outside of America and even more people thinking everything has to look like it was freshly nuked for that "real Fallout feel." Even thow Fallout is now over 200 years since the Great War and things have moved on. Bethesda has also said they don't want or will not go back in the timeline.

So... if Bethesda created a new series set in the Fallout Universe but in Europe.. They could then also set the game closer to the Great War. Say sometime in the 2090s. Would also have whole new slate to work with other then following the lore about everything we know that happened before the Great War. Such as Europe going to war with the Middle East and then with itself. Completely new factions, creatures and tech. So in short a WHOLE NEW game yet set in the Fallout Universe.

Work on that series Bethesda and hand Fallout over to Obsidian. By hand it over I mean let them make it and you guys publish it and make money for doing very little. Win freaking win /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Not gonna lie I think the spin off series would be brahmin poop, it's basically the same setting as say Resistance, Gears of war and whatnot just in the heart of utter doom and gloom.

Fallout 3 was a little too close to that atmosphere anymore would be pushing it.

I think a main game needs to be in the fallout US but a DC could be in south America but not Africa or Europe ( too hard to explain getting there).
A spinoff in Europe could work but I'm not sure how fallout ish it would be but there history Is not ours so guns lots and something like FEV could be all over.

Let's go to China. It invaded the USA, remember? How can we forget China's role in this game? What I only get are Chinese Assault Rifle and a suit. Nothing more.

As a Chinese player I strongly demand more Chinese stuff.

Well, just kidding. The game is supposed to be locked on the 50's USA theme, otherwise it would totally ruin the atmosphere.

Do you know how far away from America China is? Think about what could be swimming around in the oceans too, its got to be more than just mirelurks. I would like to see a town or two taken over by a Chines remnant type faction though. Have it kind of like a Red Dawn type of thing.

I would like one, but as said, only if it was Canada or Mexico. I would, despite all that, like to visit China to see how they fared, but they would need to explain it well. Otherwise it'd be a glaring pile of bowl movement.

I don't see any point to travel across the globe other than they can. Because it is entirely a work of fiction placed in real world locations that can be changed beyond recognition without the need to explain, no one location offers anything pivotal that couldn't be duplicated. Also if they are going to do content in a massive city such as London, Mexico City or an island country, I would actually prefer that they spent a whole game on it. Do these kinds of places justice.

I didn't even like how far the Pitt was from the Capital Wasteland with only a black screen in between the two locations. That DLC could have been anywhere there was a steel mill or heavy manufacturing sector except it wouldn't be so clever to call it Pitt if it were in Baltimore for example. And by just black screening the travel I was left wondering how many interesting things could be seen traveling one quarter of the country and I missed out on. How many stories we came across in the capital wasteland which only would encompass a fraction of the distance traveled to the Pitt left me feeling like my character had an amazing trip and I missed the majority of it.

Like ive preached before the base of fallout its 1950s red scare in america. The cars the music and the majority of weapons have the 50s America science fiction feel to them. While the idea of a DLC taking place in another nation perhaps China and or Britain/Canada would be cool an entire game based elsewhere than the United States would be a waste of resources and be on the same tear as the burned game. Unless bethsda was to separate their fallout department to create a fallout game based elsewhere to satisfy you fallout fans that arnt living in America.

Two centuries after the war? If China retained the ability to project power overseas, they'd rule the post-nuclear world.

No, just keep it in North America.

Nonsense, you've also got the whole of San Francisco.
