DLC outside of the USA?

Post » Fri Jun 21, 2013 11:05 am

What do people think to having a DLC set outside the USA, like maybe London for instance. The Tower of London, The London Dungeons, The Houses of Parliament Big Ben, these would all be really cool places to visit, and creepy too. If Europe had turned back to medieval times it would make a really good setting, as a DLC this could be achieved without selling out it's soul.

Unless it's Canada or Mexico then no. There is no reason for it. In the Fallout Universe those countries were apart of America.

I wouldn't want to see a Europe DLC. A $10-20 DLC doesn't seem like it would be enough to cover Europe. Besides, how would the protagonist of a future Fallout game get to Europe? Vertibirds don't have the range, and I don't think there are any ships seaworthy for the Atlantic.

However, Mexico or Canada would probably work. We know the NCR is in Baja, and the Legion could have expanded in to Sonora. As for Canada, we know there are post war communities there, but I'd rather have Ronto as a full game instead of a DLC.

The US only annexed Canada. Mexico was invaded in 2051 for oil, but the US left after the war. http://www.falloutwiki.com/Mexico

Well there is a lot of time given between 2051 and 2077. So if Bethesda really wanted to they could pretty easily explain how the US was annexing Mexico. As of now we don't know.

Also nothing ever says the US left.

Yup I agree 100%. It could only be Canada or Mexico. No other countries.

Good point, but If Bethesda ever adds something like that in, it will seem odd that it was never mentioned before.

Canada Maybe, Mexico, no. One of the things I didn't like about New Vegas was that I knew that the Mojave was already a desert before the war, so the warheads that got through didn't have a real effect to the area. Mexico isn't that far away, and was kinda arid to begin with, so it might just be Vegas 2.0

Going outside of North America would be a really bad idea... Americana is a huge part of Fallout, although maybe some Cuban Ghoul Pirates would be a good idea.

If you're going to do London, you'd be better off going either to a unique setting that isn't tied down with Fallout's back history, or using a setting that has already established a lot about the UK (like Twilight 2000).

Maybe it's because it's late and I am tired, but where does it say America left after the war? All I see is America invaded Mexico, nothing about them leaving.

Agreed, Americana is a big aesthetic, although if it's only a DLC I think it's ok to change up the look depending on the setting. But I feel like I remember hearing that it was unknown exactly what happened in Europe or China or really anywhere outside of North America. Of course, I may have just completely missed something, but I liked that idea of being unsure of whether or not the rest of the world has completely gone to hell.

I wonder, if The Kings picked up their accents from holotapes or whatever they found the old Elvis stuff on, maybe that's how these guys, or perhaps their parents who then passed it on, developed their accents. It always did throw me off a bit when such a distinct accent stands out from all the rest.

I agree. For the time being Canada and Mexico. There is still plenty to hash out in the US let alone SA, Europe etc...

So that's why all Tenpenny does is just sit, all that work must have made him tired.

Don't forget the leader of the thieves in FO1, he had a british accent that he got from Robin Hood holotapes.

maybe north pole could be one location and there would be some kind of really huge enclave base.

The only problem is it would have NV's biggest problem; barren, empty, wasteland.

Yep, Loxley was faking his accent.

But the devs of Bethesda said that Tenpenny was from the UK. It would have been nice if they had put a story about how he got to DC and why and what it was like where he came from and when. So in short basic story writing, Who, What, Where, When, Why and How. But we are dealing with Bethesda and writing is something they don't care about.

It might be nice to be able to go to different countries if they could make it work out right and actually make sense, which probably won't happen. But fallout should stay in or around America. Besides, I like all the mystery surrounding other parts of the world, kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

For Fallout 4, the DLC should stay on the same continent, unless its to do with a VR sim, or based in space.

DLC also has to be fresh and original.

Let's hope that if there's a "wild wasteland" perk in F4, they don't have a Rhode Island DLC full of Family Guy references...

(BTW London should be a full game in my opinion, the city is too big to be a DLC and could offer so much to the backstory, as it is an international city more than anything else)
