DLC problems for Xbox 360

Post » Wed Jan 07, 2015 1:56 pm

So every time I've attempted to go to Solstheim, about a second after I'm on the dock, my Xbox freezes. In Dawnguard, I've recruited Gunmar, but when I fast-travel to a location close to Sorine Jurard, a few seconds after I walk in the direction of the quest marker, my Xbox feezes. Suggestions??

Have you tried clearing the system cache and the game cache? The system cache is accessible through the menus (sorry, can't remember exactly how right now) and the game cache is clearable by simultaneously pressing left bumper + right bumper + X right after you select Skyrim at the top menu until the 'Start' screen. It's a while, but hold all three buttons for the full duration.

Search among the earlier threads for the specific path to clearing the system cache, I know it's been discussed recently.

Good luck.

If it crashes specifically for the DLC, you can also try reinstalling/redownloading them.

Try disabling auto saves, and make sure to save manually. Another way to clear cache is simply load up another game for a minute, then re start Skyrim.

Never save over an existing save, always make a new one.

When you go to the save screen, save on a new file, not over an existing one. This avoids what I believe is called "save bloat" and helps the game run more smoothly.

I'm not sure I understand how that works. It's the same amount of data.

If you have problems with a certain part of the game you are playing, there are times when because of the problem you are having, you have to load an earlier save. Saving over and over on the same save is like using the same usb thumb drive over and over. After a while, it wears out. Same principle. Always make a new save every now and then, so that your saves are kept fresh. I always keep about 8 to 10 different saves, and if something happens, I can go back to an earlier save. The way you are doing, you cannot go back to an earlier save.

I see. Thank you.

I was just interested; this is unlikely to be a problem for me as I keep several hundred saves anyway, and delete them when I'm finished with the character.

Disable your autosaves.

Skyrim creates an automatic autosave the first time you enter Solstheim. You may mistake this for a freeze, especially if it takes a long time. This can happen if you have a lot of savegame bloat. Do you pick up fallen weapons from enemies? If not, always do so, they'll stay on the ground when the enemy despawns, causing bloat.

To further reduce savegame bloat, disable all autosaves, save manually and in different slots and do not overwrite savegames, delete old ones as you create new ones. Do not create more than a dozen or so savegames.
