DLC time table and trying to be appreciativeunderstanding

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:13 pm

DLC and mods are two totally different things. DLC is the official content coming straight from the game developers. It's not a 'mod' in the sense of installing a mod from Nexus or something like that. Mods are going to come to consoles a little later this year, and it's likely going to be through a system that's somewhat comparable to how DLC is installed. Mods for consoles aren't going to be available for a while yet, but that's a totally different matter than the DLC.

Mods on consoles are going to be kind of limited. Microsoft and Sony aren't going to allow nvde mods for a game that doesn't have the corresponding rating, they won't allow mods with copyright issues onto their consoles, and so on, but there will still be plenty of them I'm sure.

As I recall, they announced that the game is going to be supported with patches and DLC until mid-2017. It's not going to take them nearly a year and a half to produce one more large DLC and a few more small filler DLCs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've read this numerous times.

I picked up the season pass this week for £23. It's a gamble without knowing what to expect after the first round of DLCs, but my thinking was I'm likely to buy it anyway as long as it's not a disaster, so why wait for the price hike? Bethesda have a good track record with DLC as well, so I'm putting my faith in them to release good content for this.

I do think it was clumsy of them to release a season pass without knowing what was to come before hiking the price, though. It's put everyone over a barrel somewhat.

This was my thinking. I wasn't aware people were even complaining about the time it's taking (aside from the screaming minority that will whine over most things).

A lot of people who buy games are just whiners these days. Nothing can satisfy them and they don't understand or care what it takes to make a good game. The first two DLCs are important for functionality. It's like Bethesda is giving you building blocks so that you can create, and I expect to see some really imaginative mods come out of those two. Much like Hearthfire which led to a whole bunch of great mods. As for the price, the only reason people are given a discount at all is because they are pre-purchasing. Why would a company discount their brand new wares right away? If you're unsure about the DLCs, then you can wait and pay full price so you have a choice. I don't see anything to complain about at all, but I know there will be lots of complaints from whiners who didn't buy the Season Pass when they should've and now have to pay full price for DLCs that will be mandatory if you want to use mods and for a landmass expansion. But instead of whining, they should look in the mirror and blame themselves for not buying when they could have.

I'm certain of this as well. There will be tons of posts in here and elsewhere a few months from now about how Bethesda is ripping their fans off by forcing them to pay full price for DLC. They'll argue that since those of us who got the Season Pass early got it all for a cheaper price, that they should too, and they'll completely ignore the fact that they were given ample time to get it at that price.

Seriously, getting the Season Pass is a no brainer to me. It's currently $30. Far Harbor alone is going to be $25. Individually purchasing the three DLCs that have been announced would be $45. I just don't understand the reasoning behind waiting to buy them. Fallout 4 is one of the best games I've ever played, and unless we get some horse armor crap, I can't really see myself feeling like that $30 was wasted. Even after the little bit of info we've received about the first three DLCs, I'm already basically certain that it was $30 well spent.

The creation kit will be coming to consoles, has nothing to do with DLC.

just for the record.. I know that Mods are things players made with the construction kit and DLC is content you buy from Beth. I made alot of mods for Morrowind. :) but I also read somewhere that Bethesda would be using player made Mods for the PC and converting them to DLC for consoles. They were supposedly working on a vehicle to do that.. Can't really complain about timetables for minor MODS made by players sold via th DLC for consoles. But my original post was more directed at the "Seasonal Pass" DLC items, like Far Harbor (which is clearly Bethesda coding and not player made MOD).

They never said anything about giving Console players (Xbox/PS4) a construction kit. If fact I think they went out of their way that the '~' function would never be made available for console platforms, Hince there would never be a CK for consoles either, as those two things sorta go hand in hand as you could cheat the "achievement" e-[censored] thing that consoles have going on.

But there was some interview that I read somewhere that talked about making player made MODs some sort of DLC content for console platforms as they view the MOD community as a big part of their fan base. Which is cool if they can pull it off.

I'm glad I wasn't imagining that as a few people here have confirmed what I read somewhere a few weeks ago.

All grinds back to the plague that infests the industry.

A plague of spoiled brats with a false sense of entitlement.

Wanna [censored] and whine? make your own game first, and then come back after you realise how bloody difficult it is.

Sorry I got side tracked yesterday.. so after re-reading your post ...

We are getting DLC content from Bethesda next month? or in a few weeks I should say, and the comments from the dev team about May content for Xbox was about player made mods being presented to xbox users?

Yes, everyone is getting the first DLC next month. I'm not sure if it will be on the same day. PC users might get it a week sooner just because Microsoft and Sony have to approve it and do their own thing with the content before putting it on consoles, but we'll all be getting it at roughly the same time.

The Creation Kit (official modding tools) are planned to be released to PC users in April, with mods coming to Xbox in May and PS4 in June. There aren't any firm dates set yet, so this is all subject to change, but the timeline should fall basically along those lines.

I would imagine giving firm time table on player made content would basically impossible cause like you said, it have to be reviewed by Sony, Microsoft and Bethesda before being pushed to console stores for download.

Well in this case, I totally misunderstood the interview about May-released content for Xbox (cause I thought waiting 6 months on Season Pass was a bit rude). and all this talk about DLC time tables is abit over dramatic. I mean 3-4 months after release for major DLC content seems pretty standard across all games. I do think they over sold the Season Pass thing a bit and should have been clearer on receiving the benefit of a season pass (time-wise).

hahah love this post. And i 100% agree with u.

Another point OP is most ppl that didnt like Fallout 4 and u can see on this post u made will trash anything Bethesda make from now on. I have work like that since Morrowind. Meanwhile Bethesda still make the most sell games on the industry so dont worried we going to keep getting games from them.

If u want to see what i mean, Fallout 4 Season pass been on top 5 most sell item on steam since the announcement, so i guess ppl 1 didnt care and 2 the haters are just a minority.

The Industry has far more issues than just that. Game publishers and even game devs are far less innocent than you seem to think they are. This Industry is infested with publishers trying to rip consumers off constantly and the sad thing is that many consumers are blind enough to fall for it.

Disclaimer: I'm not specifically talking about Bethesda. I'm talking about the industry as a whole.

I am at 370 hours and have yet to find these " issues" other than random Pipboy reloads now and then.. I have encountered not 1 game breaking glitch or lock up.. not sure what your issues are.

To be fair you may want to research the time tables of all other dlc releases for FO and Morrowind prior to making hasty statements

"really devoted fan" as soon as someone states their opinion and it being positive or not in agreement with the flamers they toss this word out.. its childish

Obviously you have little or no experience with Season passes and how they work.

Its sad to see the level of self entitlement some people have.. you will wait or you can quit and leave the game :) but none of this tantrum throwing will ever achieve anything.

While i agree that, yes, there is a lot of crap going on in the industry, the fact that Players believe they have some sort of entitlement is still there.

I feel like 90% of the world's gaming community in general is just ungrateful and acts like spoiled brats. I blame the Millennials.

These wonderful folks who make these games put in long hours, stress themselves to tears and apply all their talent and abilities and schooling and often the debt they are in because of that schooling to make these games. Yes, its a job and yes they are getting paid but a game as great as Fallout 4 is obviously a labor of love and I respect Todd Howard for his passion and all of the folks at Bethesda for creating the games they create and doing the things they do.

We all waited 7 years for Fallout 4. Some extra time for quality DLC isn't going to kill anyone.

We can't let the greedy self-entitled dorks drag us all down.

Yeah. I'm on board. I'm excited that they want to get DLC out now rather then 6 months from now. I'm glad they're taking advantage of Steam's beta system to test this stuff. And I'm glad they're finally starting to patch some of the most annoying bugs in the game.

Well dawnguard was a bit better than some robots, I agree with the heartfire comparison, no I actually enjoyed heartfire, escape helgen, then go to falcreach, build up an home get an nice khajiit wife and an kitten.

Not very impressed, Delay of GECK is worse, yes I belive they have to sync it with MS for the One mods, an good idea in it self as it brings mods far more in focus and not an optional feature anymore.

Far Harbor comes out in May, while Dawnguard came out in June - both games were released in the middle of November. That's what I was getting at.
