DLC unwanted loading, and unofficial patch.

Hi. I'm not sure if it's cool to post this here so I hope it is.

I have the Game of the Year edition that comes with all the DLCs. I let it install them along with the patch, but didn't check them in Mod Manager. I also installed the Unofficial Patch which has support for the DLCs but again I didn't check them in the Mod Manager.

Problem is they're loading anyway when I exit Vault 101. I would uninstall them completely and just download and install the patch but the unoffical patch says it will crash if the DLCs are not installed (but it's ok if they're not active).

Has anyone come across this problem? I would rather not play with my game cluttered with all this stuff I don't intend to play.

I don't play with mods, except the dlc, so this might be no help at all, but.... Are the dlc checked in the Data files? I don't know whether running the mod manager would override the datafile of the game or not. If the dic isn't checked in the datafile, it shouldn't be available in the game.

I believe all of those automatically get checked when you install them. You might need to deselect them in FOMM.

I thought the mod manager must override the data files but I unchecked them anyway. Still happening unfortunately.

You do have the option of selecting which DLCs to add the Unofficial Patches for, you don't need to select them all. Each one comes with a separate esp file, while the main game is an esm. So there'll be no problem with your game crashing if you don't choose the DLC patches. For instance, I don't want to play with Mothership Zeta or Operation Anchorage, so I didn't install those patches, and the Unofficial Patch works just fine without them. Just be sure to remove the things you don't want from your Data folder so they don't load up on their own. It's rather odd that they're doing that, they shouldn't.

Another option would be not to delete them but change the filename to say zeta.esp.x would give it a non working file ending so the engine can't load the esps.

And if it does somehow crash rename zeta.bsa to zeta.bsa.x that way those resources should be removed from the engine as well.

Would leave you the option to enable them one by one as you desire. :)

Just get the Delay Start mod that stops the DLC messages until are a certain level.

Yes, I would highly recommend a mod like that. Bethesda does a rather crappy job of integrating their DLCs with the main game. They seem to presume that anyone who uses them has already finished the main quest and is eager for more.
