Well there's is all kinds of data in that one place about a mission to Mars. Maybe we can assume one Mars mission succeeded and we have to go there to get 'something' and when we do we find that all the Mar's settlers turned into ghouls due to some leak in their radioactive fuel during the trip. Fight ghouls, maybe some new Martian aliens, etc. Could work.
