DLC: Will you ever consider buying DLC pack from Crytek?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:39 am

The title says it all, I know it's too early to tell if people are willing to invest more money for a DLC pack, but for all those who do plan on getting the game from the getgo, if a DLC map pack comes, are you willing to buy it?

If so? What do you think their standard price should be for 5 maps?

It would depend on how the multiplayer turns out (PC version). If it is bland and boring then no, but if it is nearly as good as crysis 1 or even better then I would definitely buy it. But for now, I'm hoping the singleplayer will be fantastic =D! And as for the price range for map packs, I will assume $10 - $15 like every other games out there.

Modifying an existing scenario a bit and charging it for an outrageous price is unacceptable to me. $10 to $15 is definitely too much compared to the game and even so in places like hong kong where new pc games are usually sold for less than $35 (hong kong ea store is charging Crysis 2 limited edition digital edition for around $38, games are usually cheaper when you buy them at other places).
If Crysis 2 indeed release such a map pack I'll only buy it if it's less than $5. And dont tell me they are usinng just another scenario from the singleplayer or from crysis 1. DLCs for some great RPGs like fallout 3 or mass effect 2 have great and deep stories, new models, voice actings and lengthy gameplay hours are charging for around this price.
Considering this, I'm hoping that Crysis 2 not as successful as mw2 as only with such a huge success, they would dare to do such an outrageous thing like charging some old maps for $15.

In principle yes but I haven't decided for sure that I'm getting the game yet. Need to see it running maxed out.

How come PC gamers are always so concentrated on max settings, full power, best resolutions etc. Is this a concept that us console gamers will never understand? (haha)

If it's good, yes :)

Although i don't count random map packs as 'good' for £10. Especially with expansions like bc2:vietnam costing £10.

also, most PC gamers aren't that fussed about max settings :) Most are happy if the game will run well on medium/high! I'm moderately fussed about having high/max settings, but not enough to spend mega amounts of money. I'll spend about £350 every 2-3 years or so (various parts change at various times, this year was the 'year of the cpu/mobo/ram' change).

I'm sure you'll want to play a 720p game on a 720p supported tv rather than a small and old blurry tv, right?
And if the game doesn't support 720p like those in ps2 days, no one will care playing on a 720p tv or not.

As for any other company selling "DLC"... myself as PC gamer would buy it IF and only IF it's good? I do however believe in having mod/mapping tools and that way new talent is born for this industry.

As long as its not a some $10 for 3 MP maps, then yea sure.

MP map packs i'd pay $5 for, and SP DLC could vary depending on awesomeness / length.

Map packs should be free, especially the ones that are just modified campaign locations. Its practically price gouging to offer up maps for $10-15 when they barely did any extra work for them.

Honestly, I'd be happy if they just released a free map every 1-1.5 months.

Yeah indeed, some new multi-player maps would be great but not for more then $10. Maybe some new weapons or new mods for your nanosuit.

Yes I would buy DLC for Crysis 2, but only if it was priced fairly. I wont spend 1200 points on a map-pack containing a handful of maps, but I would pay for more campaign missions or a map pack that had a good number of maps and more MP modes to go with it; Eg 10+maps & more MP game types for 1200 ms points sounds about right to me. Especially considering that with a SDK I could do the content myself for free on a PC.

Crytek is already developing DLC and its four new multiplayer maps:

Central Station
Roosevelt
Subway
Tanker

The only real question at hand is whether or not Crytek will charge money for it and if they do, will the community be willing to pay for extra content?

Yeah the folders themselves, but the actual maps are not completed yet so it's not a total rip off.

Whether or not I would depends on how they implement it into online play.
I'm not buying map packs if it separates me from the majority of the population and gives me slower search times.

I prefer Halo's approach - you're more likely to be matched with other people who
own the pack, but it's only a slight preference, and is out-ruled by other priorities , like locality.

If you're reading this, then you're part of this.
This is MR WANA Go, fighting for local search preferences.
... And totally not copying anyone.

10$ for 3 maps is retarded on pc
since u can just create maps with the editor for free
but then i guess thats why some money grabbing publishers dont allow modding tools on some games
the only DLC i will ever buy is something that adds to singleplayer

Only if the price is right and Crytek make POWER STRUGGLE with old and new maps - if its more of the same then i doubt it - Maybe if Crytek push out a press release that they are doing power struggle with vehicles as DLC ,Im sure more people would buy this game and make it a smash.

If it was on Xbox Live, and the Maps look really fun, and cool, and it's a fair price, most likely, unless I have some extra LIVE reward points left over to pay for it, then I'll buy it no mater what.
If it was on Steam, it'd most likely be Free, or cheap, Free yes, Cheap along the lines of Xbox LIVE DLC.
If they release it on the PC like they did in Crysis 1 and Wars, then I'd download it from gamesas/Crymod.

if they are already making the maps i really hope they do them for free cause if they will charge for them then they are just rapping us off like activision does with cod fans, just dont understand why they like to keep getting rapped every year :S
