No Dodge Roll Confirmed.

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 1:04 am

Pete Hines has just confirmed no dodge roll.

Question: "Hey Mr. Hines, I'm just wondering if there's a dodge roll in Skyrim? I can't imagine they'd let dual wielders just tank hits..."

Pete Hines" "There's no dodge roll. You hit or you don't."

I think what Pete meant is there isn't a dice roll to determine whether or not the enemy dodges.

There shouldn't be any dice rolls to determine hit chance in TES.

I wouldn't mind seeing the ability to dodge ala the Witcher and so many other games.

I'm glad for a min from the title I thought they'd taken out roll, which is likly also but I like roll would be good for dodging the dragons attacks.

Someone was actually expecting a dice roll for dodging? Seriously?

Yeah, he seems to be talking about dice rolls, in which I have no problem with since they add variables.

It was awful in Morrowind and it'd be awful in Skyrim, the to-hit roll style just does not fit with TES style first person combat.

It is a problem though, that dual wielders are expected to just tank hits and can't parry/block.

There was never a dice roll for that. That was up to the AI to figure for itself. Rather this is for forward, backwards, or side to side tactical rolls/summersaults out of harms ways.

I have to qualms about that not being in. It's not Devil May Cry.

I feel like its just "formal fighting" (not strategically smart/realistic, in the sense that instead of trying to really avoid getting hit, you simply move back/sideways a step)

I don't understand why they would want to limit your agility + tactics to avoid attacks. (imagine you see a massive fire spell or someone about to shoot you with a bow, I don't think you would just walk backwards/sideways, you would most likely forcefully move away [through some sort of jump/dodge/roll, etc]

Well I wouldn't mind fancy dice chance based dodge rolls for AI even if we may not. We have other tricks up our sleeves.

Skyrim would be dumbed down without the ability to dodge, but thats not what hes talking about. Which makes me wonder what Pete thought the question was in the first place, since I dont get anything about Dice Rolls out of the question that was asked.

then again, maybe hes talking about, there's no dodge, so you either hit an enemy, or hes out of range, there's no quick way to get away like a dodge? If thats true, I'll be really disappointed...yet again.

Lmfao big mix up. I don't think I could handle going back to dice roll chance hits, turns the game into a hack n' slash RPG, save that for Diablo.

Dice based combat is far from 'hack n' slash'.

Wtf are you talking about? There is no dice involved with rolling, you hold block and move to a direction and you roll.
