does anybody else do this?

Well my current character just finished the knights of the nine story line. While doing the quests he collected swords from people who died serving the nine, like when you come across sir amiels corpse while getting the helm of the crusader. He took sir amiels sword (the fine steel longsword) and used a petty soul gem to enchant it (just so he could name it, he doesnt plan on using it) and named it Sir Amiels Blade. He did the same thing when he came across the corpse of sir roderic before facing the wraith of sir berich. And now both of there swords are put on display in the priory, and I plan to do it with any of the current knights of the nine if they die. Its from the way that the blades work, seeing that they take the katanas from the fallen blades and bring it back to the temple so that they will be remembered.

So does anybody else do this?

I do it, I took the cuirass and sword of a knight who died during a skirmish with me in a fort, I put his stuff in front of the altar in the chapel of the nine. I do it with most NPC's if they are my friends. ^_^

I've saved gear from the fallen for both the Knights and the Blades, and returned them to the Priory or Cloud Ruler.

It started with my Orc whom I'd followed through Morrowind, and he picked up the habit of returning shields after joining House Redoran (he also considered the Skaal his family, and so was upset to hear of House Redoran being attacked by Orcs and Nords). After the big battle in SI, he even saved shields from fallen Aureal and Mazken, and placed them at the outside entrance to the palace between the Saint and Seducer guards.

Never thought of enchanting anything though to name the items. Great idea!

Yeah I do something similar. I usually make sure none of my companions die though (by lowering the difficulty and reloading until I succeed), so I don't have their gear. But I keep the swords and shields from the ghosts at Sancre Tor and the shield from Battlehorn and put them all on display. I even keep the weapons from the DB for a darker display :) So I have good and bad. I also keep a full set of Blades armour and a katana and put them all on a mannequin for display.

I liked the idea of having Capt. Renault's, Glenroy's and potential Baurus' swords hung on the wall in Cloud Ruler Temple, but was very disappointed that there's no way to have Jauffre's put there if he dies at the Battle of Bruma or in IC. If Jauffre's dead, then nobody will take Baurus' sword either.

That's a great idea. I collect certain cuirasses from the fallen at the Bruma Gate, and put them on display in my house. What you're doing sounds cooler.

When Buffy encounters a fallen Legionaire, she will deliver his shield to the nearest city guard. If the Legionaire left behind a surviving horse, she will heal it and deliver it to the nearest stables. In fact anytime she encounters a horse in the wild who's rider has been slain (like sometimes happens to the Black Horse Couriers) she will deliver the horse to the nearest stables. She has a two minute command creature spell for this so the horse will follow her own horse - it is a bit tedious, but she does it. Depending on terrain, sometimes her 'horse walk on water' spell can help them get there faster and safer.

I lay their corpes and fold their arms over their chest and lay a few nightshade and other flowers around them. My char then makes a quick prayer to the nine, and continues on his way. If they had a weapon/shield I lay it in the undercroft in the priory. with multiple flowers and such.

I do the same for soldiers I find on the road, except If im near water i lay the corpses in there and (this is why im thinking on getting a good comp) lay the weapons on the shore. I wish I could stab them into the ground. :/

The last time I played through the main quest, I took all the armor and weapons from the fallen at the battle of the Great Gate, and laid them neatly at their sides, where they fell, thinking to make a kind of memorial for them. I figured the bodies would disappear. Well, eventually all the bodies except Jauffre and Baurus did disappear, but those two never did. It was depressing. I forgot about it for a long time, and then was just passing through, and not only were those two still laying there, but half of the gear was missing. This did not work at all like I planned it. Sigh.

I do stuff like that. Not excatly, I take a named persons weapon, and enchant it. I also put the bodies in the water or try and make them buried, like putting them in a fire, however I do it I put any flower to the place the person died, and one at the place he/she was buried. (In water I put flower at the shore i put the body.)

In :obliviongate: I throw the dremora in the lava, intead of water.

EDIT: Note that i only do this to people deserving it.

I don't do things like that for character my character respects.

I don't know which culture it's in, but it's dishonor for a person to have died in combat, but not have his weapon on him. Something like that.

Like, if I kill a dishonorable bandit who attacks from behind, I pickup his weapon and throw it in a nearby lake, marking him with dishonor. An honorable fighter sets aside the body of the person he killed and leaves his weapon with the deceased as a sign of respect.

I only do it with enchanted weapons that don't need to be charged and then scattering them around the bedside display case.

If there's someone my characters particularly liked, I take something of theirs (usually a sword, shiled or helm, but sometimes a single arrow or ring or something etc), enchant it with something useless (so I'm not tempted to use it myself, mostly...) just to name it theirs and put it on one of these little pedestals all my characters have in their (mod-added) houses.

We like to remember people we liked.

Sorry-- completely off topic, but it's been a long time since I thought about, much less read, Elfquest, and your avatar brought it all crashing back to me.

I have to find my books.... I know they're around here somewhere....
