I guess I first have to say that I LOVE Skyrim, the game svcks me in (like a triple [censored]ed hoker), but I'm fully aware that it has flaws, and that the gaming industry has changed since Morrowind.
I'd really like to see the complaints that the Morrowind "oldschoolers" have with Skyrim, and if they are unique to Skyrim, or with recent games in general.....
The most obvious changes since Morrowind, as far as I can tell are these:
-Essential NPCs
-Inventory/Interface
-Quest markers/Journal system
Essential NPCs and Quest markers are as far as I can think of implemented to help the players experience the content. When I played Morrowind I spent a LOT of time on UESP to help me remember previous clues and quests in a chain, to get an overview on what the hell I was actually supposed to do. I'll admit that quests seemed a lot "deeper" when you HAD to pay attention to dialogue and your journal to get to where you wanted to go. It also required you to get to know the game-world. I remember spending a lot of time walking around the wrong lake looking for locations in Morrownd, since I was a bit confused on the names of certain locations. All in all, I can't really decide if the change is a positive or negative one, since I still pay attention to the quest, and read the journal entries to figure out where I'm going. Personally, I'd like to have both the quest marker, and the detailed journal entries, but perhaps not have the quest marker not appear unless you were in the same region as the locations (or a proximity trigger).
Essential NPCs are in my opinion a no-brainer. Atleast in regards to the main quests in the game. I've had one issue with them in Skyrim, ***SPOILER*** in regards to the quest where you're asked to disable a lighthouse to crash and loot a ship. I figured the quest was a bit too evil for my character, and never followed up on the Argonian's suggestion. However, at another time in the game, I found the hideout of some bandits that were in league with said Argonian, and found a journal that explained what they really wanted me to do, and that they were going to murder me after I fixed the lighthouse. I then murdered the bandits, and went to Solitude to confront the Argonian. Unfortunatly the Argonian had no new dialogue, so I figured I'd kill him and dump him in the Ocean (so much for being good, eh?). Turns out the scaly bastard is essential....
The interface is a price we have to pay for pirating games, and that game development for consoles is easier and safer for a developer....
