Does anyone actually like Skyrim?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:27 pm

Just check metacritic if you're interested in consensus opinions of any game. This game is pretty much universally beloved, but the forums are THE place where anyone who has a complaint is going to complain. This is where all the negativity accumulates, and no matter how good a game is there will be negative elements to discuss.

I love skyrim but metacritic is an awful judge of a game. People intentionally inflate/deflate metacritic scores all the time for not particularly valid reasons.

I love Skyrim, but i think it has it's problems, just like every other game. That is the whole point of 'discussion' forums. People can come together and share likes and dislikes with the idea that we can all have rational conversations about it. Unfortunately this doesn't work. Just because i see room for improvement and am not 'OMG Skyrim is totally cool and flawless, the best game EVER' or 'Skyrim svckS and is soooooo broken' doesn't mean to say i don't enjoy playing it or going over the gaming details.

Metacritic is a good place to get people's opinions, even if their opinions aren't sensible or agreeable. Also, with thousands of opinions offered you tend to get a valid consensus in the score regardless of the trolls. There's really no better place on the internet or anywhere to get a rough idea of how most people feel about the game.

67 hours into the game and despite its flaws, Skyrim's GotY for me.

And it's gonna be even better with mods and hopefully DLCs too.

I agree with reading comments and learning things people like or dislike about the game. But the score itself is really meaningless. They don't get a lot of votes so it's easy for a group of people upset about a particular thing or a group of [censored] to alter the score. Look at dragon age 2 where people were upset about the major changes they made going from dragon age 1 to dragon age 2. The metacritic scores were awful, not because dragon age 2 was a bad game, but because it wasn't like dragon age 1. A lot of the people who gave the game terrible scores had never even played it.

edit: What the hell, fanb0y is censored? That's ridiculous.

I'm loving it so far. There's a lot to like. But there are things I'm missing from previous games, which I won't go into since it's a horse that's been beaten to death. And there are things in the game that feel lazy, or too stripped down. I'm not sure how I will feel when it comes to replaying as a new character (it doesn't feel like there's much incentive to even bother this time).

I'm also loving the extra detail, but Draugr ruins are Alyeid Ruins 2.0 as far as repetitiveness and blandness goes, and I'm really disappointed to see that a couple of the "cities" are actually just glorified villages (no unique building models or anything). At least Oblivion managed to have every city be asthetically unique.

I guess when it comes down to it, Skyrim is as good and as flawed as Oblivion and Morrowind. Just in different ways to those games.

Yes, we know you Morrowind elitists don't like the game.

I think the game is great. I know there are criticisms here and there, but that's mainly because most people who play the Bethesda lineup (Morrowind, Fallout, etc) are thinking gamers who likely enjoy the subtleties as much as the epic moments.

I always tell my friends who are casual gamers (and have never delved into anything as extensive as these games ) that games like Cof Duty and Halo and such are "video games", while something like "Skyrim" is an "interactive entertainment experience".

I guess I just have more respect for these games because, yeah, they are a little more sophisticated and complicated over "run and gun". There is a bit of responsibility on the part of the player to approach it with a sense of realism, as opposed to looking for "petty cheats" and so on, or complaining because it's not challenging enough.

If it's not challenging enough, play on Master mode in your underwear with a D.I.D. policy (dead is dead)

I get a little bit tired of players rushing through it on "novice" mode and then whining about it being too easy. I think sometimes there's some "showing off" on these forums. In my opinion everytime I get killed in the game I feel humbled and realize that I'm not the toughest mother in the land. There are a lot of us who aren't really "experts" at these games; I find Skyrim quite challenging even on "Adept" mode.

Loving every minute of it, thanks. Worth every penny, and fabulous work, Bethesda !

I've played every TES game since Daggerfall, and I can say it's my favorite in the series. I didn't care for Oblivion in comparison to Morrowind, but I think a lot of people are making mountains out of molehills. It's a great game and while it's certainly not perfect it is an incredibly engaging and engrossing experience.

I love Skyrim, and actually think it is the Best in the TES series, and I have played them all going back to Arena on floppies! The sad fact is people are far more likely to register and show up on these forums to vent their displeasure at sometimes the most insignificant thing, whereas everyone who is enjoying the game won't. Give it some time, patches and Mods will be released and then things should quieten down :) I agree with all the reviews, Skyrim is a masterpiece and possibly the best game I have ever played... and I have played thousands!

I do. It's a lot more fun than reading through all the whining.

I like Skyrim. Some things about it I find very very awesome. Some things about it I find mediocre/boring. There's a few things I might like to change a bit, but overall I'd give it a pretty high score.
This coming from someone who didn't like Oblivion at all and, while I did love Morrowind quite a bit, still didn't spend hundreds of hours over years playing MW. eg, I'm not the most gigantic fan of ES gameplay (outside of the open world exploration aspect), and I'd still give Skyrim at least an 8 out of 10.

At the moment I'm having a hard time finding motivation to play the game very often, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the game itself.

This is the best game I have played next to Uncharted 3.

Obviously people on a forum are going to complain.

While some people probably don't like it and others were severely disappointed, I think that for most of the complainers, they do so because they care. Especially if they suggest a change or a 'way it should be' along with the complaint. They care enough to bring the grievances to the forums in hopes they will be seen by those who can impose change (provided that enough people collectively agree on a particular flaw).
