Does anyone actually like Skyrim?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:26 pm

I'm loving Skyrim and I'm confident the Construction Kit and modding will bring more advanced, enjoyable and generally better gaming than previous series. It's got a lot going for it methinks.

The silent majority love the game, myself included. The vocal minority will shout til their throats are sore, then leave, then the forum will be filled with helpful people, happens everytime.

Yes, we know you Morrowind elitists don't like the game. But I've noticed so many negative threads on Skyrim that I wondered if there's anyone out there who actually enjoys the game?

I've never loved any game more than Skyrim. And I've played all of the games.

It's threads like this is why I don't come here anymore. :P

I'm new around here so forgive me if there are lots of threads similiar to this one.

But I thought that this would be a community of people talking about the game, discussing quests and the like. Instead all I've witnessed is countless "FFS BETHESDA HOW COULD U DO THIS TO ME!!!11" and "I HATE THIS GAME WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY LOL!!!11".

But like someone mentioned above, this could be because of the current generation of spoilt kids rather than genuine criticism.

"Haters gonna hate" after all.

I wonder then, if the Majority is silent,
How do you know their silent opinion?

Most people who like the game dont feel the need to come to forum and spam threads about how great Skyrim is.
So we get tons of negative topics because people have something they wish to complain about.

It's a forum. It's thanksgiving. Do you really think tmost people who enjoy the game would waste their time on a forum? Most probably don't even know it exists.

Rule 34, if it exists there's...

Well my rule is if it exists there's a forum for it. And if there isn't then I don't know...

I play games since the time of the C-64, from Bards Tale, Ultima to Gothic and i can truly say that Skyrim is one of the BEST RPGs i ever played in my life. The interesting thing is that i didn't like Oblivion & Morrowind but i LOVE Skyrim!

the only reason you have seen so much skyrim hate and so little people praising the game is because those who like it a lot are playing it and arent on the forums while those who hate it are not spending their time playing the game and just complain on forums

So the game have flaws, glitches and bugs. So what. I think the original poster is tipping his/her toes in the water before diving in.
BTW I love the game.

I still play Morrowind though.

Why do people like yourself seem utterly alien to the concept that you can enjoy a game but have complaints about it? I am not trying to trash your thread here, I am actually addressing your point directly because you have missed a major part of the equation here.

Thank you so much for making that post! I've got a friend who thinks it's absurd that I can have any negative comments about the (IMO) oversimplified UI. One can like something while still acknowledging its flaws.

I personally think it's great. So much so that I think stark naysayers, saying that it's the worst game created in a long time, seem to have a stick so far up their bum that they can't seem to think straight anymore. I would personally feel more comfortable if they stopped complaining and went back to their precious MUDs.

It has it problems, and to be honest i've mostly voiced the problems, but overall it's the best Bethesda game i've played yet. And mods, patches and DLC will only improve it further :)

Agreed. I liked Morrowind and I like Skyrim. However, no game is perfect, and I will not pretend that it is. Besides, how is Bethesda to know what works and what doesn't if we don't both praise and complain?

I think most of us so called Morrowind elitists love Skyrim, just like we loved Daggerfall and Arena. You could also call us "TES fans" as opposed to "Oblivion fans". I can't speak for the others, but for all i care, Oblivion can... well... pass into oblivion.

That said, maybe the negative threads come from folks that expected Oblivion 2.0?

I love the game, it's not perfect, but give a bit of feedback that isn't 100% positive and a load of people jump down your throat!

What I find hard to believe is the utter rudeness and contempt that some posters display towards others on this forum. I bet none of them would dare talk to their mother/sister/gran like that, yet it's alright to sit behind a screen and spew abuse like some vile little brat. I just wish some people would learn to control themselves in front of a keyboard! The tone around here does get unpleasant sometimes, although the mods do their best (can't be an easy task some days!)

It's all good that people can come and 'acknowledge flaws', but it's sickening seeing a topic like "Why is this game so bad?" or "Wow this svcks!". It seems like a lot of people are spoiled with previous games and fail to see that Skyrim is actually a nice leap forward. It might not be advanced in every aspect of the game, and may be degraded in some.. but the overall game is a complete success.

And I love it.

I'm not sure why people are negative about people posting complaints. It's like there is this deep held belief that if you only are a devoted fan of a product that's a good thing. Bethesda needs to know as a company that serves its customers with a great gaming experience what things they need to consider to make it better in the future. Isn't that the nature of how companies learn to make better products? If people only were allowed to post praise wouldn't that be misleading to Bethesda? Wouldn't their Product Managers then believe there was no need for improvement? Or that they hadn't consider all aspects of the gaming experience?

I've played 110+ hours, am enjoying the game but that doesn't mean I don't see flaws that could make it an even better game. With Oblivion and Morrowind Bethesda set a bar (different bars) of expectations for it's player base. People will always expect the next title to deliver more and better gaming experiences. Skyrim has exceeded and succeeded in many areas in others people feel it didn't meet those expectations. I think it's good for the community to vet it out so that Bethesda has a better idea of how it can improve and deliver even better games/content in the future.

The ones that like Skyrim are the ones playing it instead of complaining on the forums, like myself.
