Play the game "right"?! what madness is this! :P

I hardly concentrate on the main quest though, and I only do the main quest in one character, and I *gasp* RP.

Ok to actually post an answer to your question, YES! I am EVIIIILLLLL in the world of TES! this is a world where you can do as you please, kill rob, etc, and i enjoy thehelloutta that! i recall having a convo w a coworker about oblivion when it first came out and we discussed our characters. He became a stand up guy real do gooder, n i told him about the day i met my mentor, Lucien. i told him i belong to the night mother and serve the dread father w a passion ;D He looked at me like i dropped a duce on his moms lap.

...upon rereading your ?, i think i answered incorrectly.... but i feel in my bones serving sithis and robbing my victims blind is "right"

I mess around to have fun sometimes. I'll go around and punch random people in oblivion sometimes, that's always fun.

Arena is the ONLY elder scrolls game where I just blew through the story without taking on any side quests. Thats not including the three day (Real time) grinding session I pulled off in some randomly generated dungeon.

And even then, I suppose Roleplaying kind of counts as fooling around, and Arena did support it with very immersive notes when you walked into buildings by describing the weather of the seasons, and the atmosphere inside. Or the political situation inside a palace court, and the mood of the petitioners as well as whatever monarch lay within.

Oblivion's physics engine was a lot of fun to play around with, and exploring off the beaten path was the best part of Morrowind as it felt rewarding. If anyone plays these games just for the sake of beating the main story, I really do feel kind of sorry for them as it means they are missing the point of TES games.

its a sandbox game with countless options and endless hours of content, who in their right mind wouldnt try some things off the beaten path?

of course most of the time ill be playing the game "right" because there is far more than enough stuff to do already, but at some point or another you just have to give yourself 100% chameleon and smack a guard in the face, or use wabbajack on merhunes dagon... your just cheating yourself out of the full experience otherwise :frog: .

Wow, people's sense of humor can be unnervingly gross.

The results of the poll really goes to show why we need Police in real life.......

I for one, do not mess around. I have a conscience in real life, and I see no reason to fantasize a roleplaying experience that would break my intregrity. Even in roleplaying games I keep myself accountable, because I do not find it fun to kill innocent people.... ever.

I only kill in self defense, in TES games.

Ya know, even my evil characters don't just go around throwing fireballs at people. Thats not portraying an evil character, thats just plain old idiocy.

Messing around is a blast! I usually save before doing so though, just in case...

I never do that sort of thing 'for real'. Sometimes I'll mess around with the game, but the results aren't incorporated into my save game. My messing around is sort of 'off the clock'. For example, when I'm finished playing for the evening and save my game on the city streets, I may use a console command to spawn a few clanfears just to watch the chaos before I close the game. But while actually playing, I tend to play it pretty straight.

There is no right or wrong way to play a game, as long as you're not outright failing.

Has anyone here seen the film, Groundhog Day? I mention it because, I would guess that the majority of people here would like that movie.

i loved pushing the adoring fan off of dive rock.

Why didn't I think of that?
I pushed one of the pirates off the Marie whatever in the waterferont district into the water and tried to make him drown then I gave up and just watched him because I thought he was going to end up drowning himself cause he was trying to swim through the side of the ship but kept getting lower underwater then he mysteriously glitched himself back on the ship : (

Another instance is when you get the ring of burden. Well I had this brilliant idea that I was going to reverse pickpocket it into one of the mages inventory and watch them come to a dead stop  but it didn't work it wouldn't let me reverse pickpocket it into anyones inventory = lame
