Does anyone else feel Unarmed is a bit underwhelming?

Post » Tue Feb 02, 2016 10:52 pm

One of my favorite characters and playthroughs of all time in FO3 was an unarmed character, However the transition to FO4 made me think one thing, Unarmed got so nerfed.

·Unarmed only has 4 base weapons to work with. Each only having 1-3 mods associated with them. Limiting variety.

·No longer compatible with Power Armor.

·Unarmed now scales with Strength rather than Endurance meaning you'll have to dump points into both now rather than just Endurance. Limiting the variety of Builds.

·Fallout: New Vegas' special attack system did not make a return. Which would've greatly compensated for the lack of power armor compatibility.

·The Deathclaw Gauntlet in Fallout 4 was a massive disappointment. Instead of running around slashing enemies with a giant claw on my hand it's now some straps with sticks attached onto it.

·The ninja perk only grants 3.5x sneak damage rather than the 10x multiplier.

·Unarmed(along with Melee) don't work with any of the later Charisma perks(Wasteland Whisperer/Intimidation)

Hopefully with DLCs or Mods we'll at least be able to color customize a Power Fist. XD

On a serious note what are everyone else's thoughts?

1. I agree on the lack of weapons

2. You can still use your fist in power armor and can get cool upgrades like bleeding/shock damage

3. Makes sense to scale with strength instead of endurance, It didn't limit my builds that much.

4. Agree on adding special attacks, kill cam moves sre cool though.

5. Imo the new look with the bones is better

6. Is there a glitch with the ninja perk?

7. Agreed, it should also work with charisma perks

I'm pretty confident that they will improve it with dlc. Right now I use it as a secondary focus on my melee character.

I'm not a huge melee fan, but I did enjoy in NV that to enter a casino you were forced to give up your weapons, but you could try sneaking in a flick knife or some such. I thought this was a cool way to force the player to try out some stabby/punchy techniques.

With this game I have a box full of legendary melee that I never use.

Also it would help if boxing gloves came in pairs.

-Fallout 3 was pretty much the same

-Dunno about you, but punching in Power armor for me was OP enough as it is, especially with the right modifications

-At least, it makes sense in a logical way, how powerful your punches are should also be governed by how physically strong you are, not just how fit you are

-If you do power attacks, you character will have a chance of randomly doing special moves ranging from a mere shove all the way to doing a judo throw. But yea it would be great if we could do this manually rather than have it be completely random

-Not sure how aesthetics is suppose to affect core mechanics but the claws on the one in Fallout 4 look a lot bigger and less fragile than the ones in Fallout 3

-Well that's either a glitch or an oversight by Bethesda

-Because realistically speaking your fists and melee weapons are not as intimidating at a distance as a firearm would be

without special moves like in NV and this extreme shortage of options when it comes of weapons, you know when I create a character like that? Never.

I agree Op, I was kind of shocked to learn weapons like the Ballistic Fist & Tesla Fist weren't in the game.

You know the saying about not bringing knife in to gunfight? Well the moral of the story is not to come to a gunfight unarmed ;)

So unarmed has damage boosting mods for arms that increase damage, my dc gauntlet does 500 +50. My supersledge does 275. Basically its 5.3x sneak crit vs 10.6x sneak but unarmed has way higher base damage. Unarmed also has a paralyze on crit and you don't have to worry about hitting allies. Strength not increasing unarmed damage was really stupid im glad they wised up. Power armor mods heavily favor unarmed but even maxed out its garbage compared to any other equipment set up.

Lol at the knife to a gun fight.

Your gun does less than a 10th of my damage.

unarmed is a [censored] option in the first place, it should be nerfed and anyone actually trying to figtht the enemies in fallout 4 unarmed shouldn't be alive for very long.

I think unarmed is just fine.

Though NV still did it better.
