Does anyone else find Binoculars to be useful?

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:12 am

I ask because I was curious, am I the only person who takes the time to hide on ridges and observe my enemies then move in or snipe them?

Personally, I enjoy them being in the game, I consider it one of my 'essential' items. It's especially useful for me since I like to tactically assault Cottonwood, and by assault, I mean snipe from a high ridge.

I like them being in especially for role , but never found any practical use for them tbh.
A scoped weapon is just more practical, if there was some quest or small spotter boost to accuarcy after using them I'd probably use them more often.
Or even light up certain targets using the camera style attack.

I always carry binos. When I carry a scoped weapon, I don't use them alot, but I always carry them. When I don't have a scoped weapon, I use them tons. I used them extensively in Honest Hearts.

I like to carry them around too, but only when I'm roleplaying. Otherwise, I just use my Hunting Rifle's/Guass Rifle's scope. I wish you could hit people with them though.

I use em all the time. With certain areas i'll watch patrols and figure out the best time to slip by, especially if i'm low on medical supplies/ammo

when i first found them i loved them, but any half decent scope has better range, thus superceding their use. if they could out zoom most scopes then yes they would return to my loadout but they are currently redundant.

Hmm, I don′t particularly use them very much. But I think it′s good that their not just another useless item, but that it′s actually has a feature. There′s to much crap laying around that you can′t use.

Why would you use them. Just get out a sniper rifle(already can see farther than the Binoculars) and if you see something you dont like shoot it instead of putting away our binoculars then having to get out your sniper rifle.

I will say they are a nice edition though. Could be good for roleplay.

I use them but I wish they had more zoom.

Binoculars need mods.
Binoculars+
High Magnification Lenses: +30% Zoom
Night Vision Module: Night Vision Effect after Dark
Target Acquisition Computer: Highlights Characters in the world (like Boone's Perk)

I do wish we could have an 'enhanced zoom' option/mod. :cryvaultboy:

This is brilliant! They're a weapon, so they can receive mods right? Robot, you're a guiness!

I've never really used them that much, the zoom you get from most scopes is better than the one you get from binoculars anyway. But its still a cool little thing to have in the game, especially from a rp perspective.

Edit @ Enduring thats a pretty good idea man, too bad something like that wasn't put in the game.

I don't use them that often. Only when I am role playing or can't find a sniper rifle.

I find them to very useful, and I thought they would be great for my Sniper playthrough, but really they only take up a pound of room on it. Might as well just use a scope and keep that extra space.

will their be further patches? this needs to happen! if not modded, then at least tiered with top end ones doing the good stuff. or, remove all scoped weapons to rebalance them.

Motion seconded it's a very good idea Protectron.
The last two are already scripted effects, so should not be too hard to set up.

At the draw distance on the Xbox I can sight targets at all ranges by the naked eye, so they're not useful at all for me.

They are even better if you toggle night vision to on (GECK).

I just use my sniper rifle. Do the binoculars have an increased zoom over the rifle?

Yeah, what he said. Binos should have longer zoom range than any scope, then they would be worthwhile. I may just go get that mod that improves on them, giving them longer range and taking away the stupid, tiny 'racoon eyes' view that the default binos use. It is unrealistic, flaky, and annoying. I actually get a better, more satisfying longer-ranged view of things using most scopes, than i do with the default binos. Extremely poorly implemented.
