Does anyone else find the minigun mag unrealistic

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 12:13 am

Just wondering if I'm the only one who considers the sheer size of the minigun magazine wildly disproportionate and impractical? I mean look at it for a second, then watch yourself trying to run with it in third person, in reality you would likely trip over it while lugging it about. As well as that the capacity of the mag in comparison to it size is pathetic, 5mm is a small round not only would it be possible to fit twice the ammo capacity in it but it would be possible to fit ten times as much if not more. The reload animation is also bonkers and breaks immersion completely, the minigun seems like it's supposed to be belt fed yet it is reloaded like a magazine. Personally I think a smaller mag that feed directly into the minigun rather than the belt would be far more practical. There could have been more options included to improve the minigun , such as different mags and caliber recievers, a couple of extra muzzles would have been nice too. Overall, this coupled with the generally low damage of the weapon I feel was one of the biggest let downs to the game.

You're saying the amount of ammo it can carry is immersion breaking but not the fact that you can lug that gigantic heap around? What???

No I'm well aware that carrying it around to begin with is an immense feet, but then if you look at the size of the mag compared to the weapon overall the majority of it bulk actually comes from that having a smaller sized mag makes it more realistic, and my immersion problem isn't solely with the mag capacity but the reload mechanism altogether

Well they had to find some way to explain how a normally vehicle mounted weapon could have a respectable magazine size. I rather have that bulky drum then it just be your guy carrying a little minigun and just have the bullets magically feed into the gun.

Or that a 10mm gun is far more threatening in the hands of a player. Lets face it, baring one or two legendary prefixes that gun is utterly useless. It will become even more so once 5mm ammo has weight.

But the thing is it's not bullets magically fed into a gun, hell even a standard 1,000 round box for .50 cal isn't even half the size of the mag that's strapped under the gun. Also the smaller mag would inherently be lighter making it easier to carry, I'll stress this most importantly I'm not saying change the size of the whole gun just the mag, unfortunately the possibility of a backpack with a belt system isn't viable in this game neither due to the need of the weapon having to interface with a player both in standard armor and power armour which is far bulkier then in previous games

Absolutely agree with you on that point there, I'm only currently using the minigun due to the fact that I have an explosive variant, but this is why being able to chamber it in the likes of .50 or .308 would have been a nice addition.

The weapons in the game are not very satisfying in their lethality, effectiveness, or intended combat role.

The issue will compound itself under certain circumstances such as,

1) Ammo Weight

2) Added Mobs via a mod

3) Survival elements that demand that the player carry with them food, water, and meds.

I can't even get past the unrealistic damage output of that weapon to even start worrying about its ammo capacity.

This game has made very clear that "heavy weapons" doesn't mean better.

One could hope that with the new survival system, that the minigun will get a boost, since it already have build in disadvantage in the form of weight, both of the weapon and the huge amount of ammo you need for it. I wouldn't hold my breath tho, so mods may be the way (there are already several on the Nexus)

Actually, the Minigun in Fallout 3 and New Vegas had a big cartridge underneath.

THIS! A thousand times this. Minigun is second worst weapon in the game after the dart gun.

Ok your complaining about the low damage?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It's a [censored] MINIGUN for christs sake. It's meant and BUILT to have low damage but makes up for its amazingly fast Fire Rate. That's the point.

Second, go buy 500 5mm rounds and see how big the pile is, then do some match and find out how big the mag is. Then learn some commen sense and realize how they are positioned in the mag.

When you do that, then come on here and complain. I'm sick of people STILL COMPLAINING about the game. If you got a complaint take it somewhere else. Everyone else on here comes for help and to talk lore and seek advice. We don't have time to deal with your little complaining and [censored]ing.

The thing is, it *doesnt* make up for low damage. The formula on how damage is calculated takes that low damage, and nerfs it further into the ground.

It's unrealistic at so many level. Sure.

But I don't care as long as it looks believable, since this isn't Real Life Simulator or Real Gun Simulator.

It'd be funny if the only way to wield a minigun was to have a companion run along beside you carrying the ammo box and feeding you the ammo.

It's better than the imaginary belt feeding it ammo from the backpack. Same with Gattling Laser and Flamethrower.

How it was thought to be a good idea to design weapons that can't be shown right in your game?

Not sure what you are talking about with the damage. You can even wreck Behemoths and Mirelurk Queens on normal with the same amount of ammo you get off the first gun. I've done so.

I've posted this before, but really, the insignificant things people complain about and label as "breaks immersion completely"

Its a computer game.

A fictional, alternate timeline, computer game.

As someone stated above, this is not "Real Gun Simulator"

?I mean i can have a fistfight with a two-headed cow while carrying 100 telephones, and your immersion is completely broken by the mag on a hand held minigun not being quit right. :brokencomputer:

"My minigun breaks immersion because of the amount of ammo it holds."

'Please allow me to take the 10,000,000 bullets out of my pip-boy and put them in this sardine can for storage...'

100% immersion

I've posted this before too, the overuse of "my immersions" is starting to get to the point of comical absurdity.

Sometimes, you just have to accept it's a game, not a post nuclear apocalypse simulator.
