Does anyone else...

Absolutely, but then that would just give others one more thing to complain about.

Does anyone else wish your character didn't talk? He sounds like a wiener or he sounds like he's always drunk.

Yes and No.

Yes, because it would help you feel more like that specific character had some more depth.

No, because it would help you feel more like that character had some depth while taking away a lot of your own personal touch that makes it YOUR character. Not to mention they would need to do at least 20 different voice overs going over the same dialogue. One for each race and gender. They would also have to allows us to pick which voice we wanted. So basically a small feature that changes the feel of the game quite a bit and adds very little while being a major money and time sink.

No.

This would mean your character would speak it twice. Once when you read it the first time, and again when you choose for your character to speak it.

I much prefer the characters not having voices. I feel this way about other games too (i.e. Zelda). I'd rather be my character than watch my character.

I wish my character could talk. I wish Beth had recorded lines for the character we play, in different dialects for different races. I wish I had a voice like Max Von Sydow.
That's three wishes, I'm out.

No.

I mostly dislike voiced characters. When I create a character, I know what the voice sounds like. Who the devs choose as the voice actor *never* sounds the way I want my character to sound.

I'll give you an example; I played MEpc/ME2. *None* of the multiple Shepards I've made is maleShep. I absolutely cannot stand Meer's Shep. The poor guy never made it off the original Normandy to Eden Prime. Its kind of strange, because I do like other characters he's done, but I can't stand his Shepard. If Jen Hale wasn't femShep, I wouldn't have bothered with the game at all. Having all the dialogue voiced by someone I can't stand ruins the game completely. Another example of a game where the voice actor ruined it imo was DA2. MaleHawke was Vaughn the wedding crashing rapist in DA:O, and every time I heard the voice that was the character I thought of, not Hawke.

I awlays read my lines out loud. It's good if you don't mind odd looks from your wife/gf/mum or the occassional 'nipble twist' from your big ugly brother.

The thing that irks me (and I poke myself often in the eye over it) is when I break out of character. I'm a 15 stone 6'3 guy, who plays a cute little female wood elf. It's quite immersion breaking when I forget myself.

I was considering an experiment with an elastic band and dangly bits...

Nope, would be the death of the series if that ever happened.

Actually, I wouldn't be suprised if it happened in the next one. One of the complaints people have that I feel is actually valid, is that the dialog is kinda shallow. (your dialog, not NPC dialog). Less dialog choices = easier to record character dialog. Not saying it's a good or a bad thing, just that it's not unthinkable at this point.

Well, I think the reason it's like that is just because it's a skeleton-outline of your characters response.

When my guy says 'Sure, I'll do this for you.', I interpret more to his personality. For my Orc it'd be more like 'Can't handle your own problems? Alright, I'll do it.', while my Nord would respond more along the lines of 'I'll do it, if I get paid. Of course, I'll get your money whether you're willing or not.'

So, I tend to favor the more 'bare' approach to character dialogue in TES, because it allows for more branching to fit the character, as opposed to Fallout or Dragon Age.
