Does anyone else take time to read the books?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:23 am

Just curious, and if so, how do you do it? Do you read them right there in the middle of searching a dungeon? Or, like me, do you take them back to an Inn and sit down next to the fire for a good 30 mins or so?

I try to read most all of them, but some are downright tedious.

I usually try to find a suitable spot for reading them. I don't read them all, but I will collect them if I don't have a copy.

I sit in my house and read them.

What's your favourite?

I like the short cautionary tales with a twist like 'immortal blood' or the one about the soldier and the axe killer lady in the woods.
The one about the lockpicking apprentice is awesome.

My favourite series is Beggar, Thief, Warrior, King.
I read them all in one go and collecting all four volumes was pretty satisfying.
The coolest book I've found so far was the 'pick your own adventure' fighting fantasy style one about killing a dragon.

I died 3 times playing that book lol.

Yessirr.... I read just about every book I come across.

And to be honest I feel that people who dont are missing out on a HUGE part of the Elderscrolls experiance.... they contribute consideribly to the immersion factor, giving a better sense of the world and history.... and are pretty entertaining to boot.

As to weather I read em right then and there... it depends on my mood... sometimes I do and other times I take em back to my house and read em later. Some times when I load up my game I'll sit there reading books for an hour drinking coffee before I actually go out and quest etc.

I actually read some in this game and that's rare. For one, I read the Oblivion book because I never finished that game. Hehehe.

I read them extensively in Morrowind. But I find that I do not have the patience to read them in Oblivion or Skyrim.

The Wolf Queen series is very good.
So is A Dance in Fire

Also anything written by Waughin Jahrt is usually gold.

For sure, it's the main source for info on lore in the game.

I skip a lot of them but the games immersion and enjoyment would suffer greatly if I hadn't read the one's I enjoyed.

Yep. Non-readers are really missing out.
I read a lot of them in the previous games but they're still great.

you guys are all liars.

you read these?

I mean, they're 1lb each!! I can't even think of collecting them for later. I'd love to bring 'em all back and read them some time, but there's so much 'other' loot to be had, and my poor mage hasn't increased stamina to carry everything!

Maybe I'll have to revisit EVERYTHING once I'm done just to go back for all the books.

I discovered by accident that reading some books opened up quests, so I've started reading all of them as soon as I pick them up. I also found in some quests that the answer to some puzzle in the dungeon I'm in is in the book sitting on the table in the middle of the room.

There are some sets I like to collect, but most now I just flip through to see if any quest pops up and then I leave them alone. To be honest I've read most of the books when playing MW and OB, it's only the new books that really interest me.

I `m a compulsive collector of books in game, and normally can be found with a mass in my characters inventory... with the plan to drop them off at his home and the intention of reading them all at some point.
The trouble is... I rarely stop off to store things and time seems to go by way toooo fast....just dungeon crawling alone can take me a full evening, so my poor character is still hauling a library worth of books all over Skyrim :)

when you got half a mill in gold and you can make stuff better then any thing you can find then you will start looking to pick up other things,
"eb bow, flame sword, armor with spell enchantments, helm with bow, ring of 20 pts of health, amulet of rest sickness, dagger of inferno the life and trials of one knee mcgee, sweet and mage robes score 150 gld for a pound and their are like 20 of these guys in here, but for mages they dont have that many new books"
now im stuck on
"read that one read that one read that one, ohhhh whats ahhh read that one damnit where is that *spoiler* that gets all mad if you mistreat books, and why put the answers in the riddle books make them things we have to find like more books of riddles that lead you down a 80 hour chain of books to find a bow that is awsome looking but you cant smith it........................ damnit"

My TV is pretty big, but the fonts are so... Meh. Nah, I don't read them. If the fonts were different, I'd read them.

I read the books and love them. That's where I get all my lore from. One of the things I wanted to know first was what happened to the world in the 200 period after the Oblivion crisis, and the only way to really get that information is from the books. My favourites are the historical/political/theology books, but the fictional books are fun too.

I think if there was more relevancy to them then it would be different. As they are, they don't contribute much more than authenticity.
I'd be interested if more of them opened up new quests or suggested items in the real game world that you could discover, but they're mostly just useless background info relating more to previous ES games than skyrim.
