Does anyone feel sorry for the falmer?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 8:27 pm

I just thought they were mindless goblins who had lost their sight due to deciding to live underground. However after looking at their history and learning how they used to be very civilised until the dwemer tricked them and were complete [censored]s to them. After reading some if it, I felt so sorry for them.

Anyone felt like this?

After 3 eras, I feel like they need to learn not to hold a grudge.

I'm just saying.

The Dwemer? What about the Nords who practically exterminated them until they had to move in with the Dwemer?

Yeah, it is pretty depressing. I would like to have a DLC centered around The Falmer, maybe about finding a way to restore them to their former glory.

The only time we ever here about them is when they were getting kicked around.

Well the game really doesn't do any sort of justice in putting them in a good light. They are mindless in game.

They are primitive and violent. They are not mindless.

Hard to do that since they now have the brain capacity of your average Cyrodillic goblin.

Not a little bit sorry for them.
Yes they had a rough time. However after the revolt and the dissapearance of the Dwemer they still couldn't let go of that hatred. Not even after all that time had passed.
They have went from the bullied, to the bully.

Yeah. That's too bad that they went and made them goblin replacements. They were a race of elves like any other before, but now they've devolved into mindless creatures.

When they said the Falmer were in I was hoping we'd have underground cities of their people, plotting the downfall of the Nords and resentful of the surface races. But you can't speak to them at all, only through lore could you discover that they were ever a sentient humanoid race whatsoever.

Yes I do actually, they where the Victims to the very end and now they have become the ruthless. It would be cool if Beth would of made some snow elf clan that survived by branching off right when the rest went under ground to the Dwemer. Am I the only one that envisions a Snow Elf as having whitish gray skin, icy blue hair and eyes, and a Princly look?

they make some pretty kick ass weapons (bow and war axe) though.

...if you pick them up early in the game and level them up with the chitin of that weird (tough to kill) bug that's in the caves with the falmers.

Nobody can undo the forced mutations they've been through, the kindest thing you can do for them is wipe them out. What they are now is at best barely sapient, and a danger to all they come into contact with.

I say lock the the Thalmor in with the Falmer and let them fight it out.

Add Wuuthrad poking out of their head and that's exactly how I envision them.

Oh please, that's a little too cruel don't you think?

For the Falmer I mean.

I feel sorry for what happened to them, but not so sorry for them as they are right now. I'm not sure of their intelligence levels now, but if they actually have SERVANTS of other races, it makes me think that they could build back up again, but the way they're going about it is just asking for trouble.

I used to think the Dwemer were mighty cool, though. After seeing their torture chambers and reading what they did to the Falmer, though... it completely changed my opinion. And made me really grumpy.

They have a very interesting and emotional story, which would add for a perfect DLC,

Quote from UESP.net:

According to "The Falmer: A Study", Falmer raids have in recent years became more bold and dangerous. The author presents the possibility that the Falmer are regaining their strength and power, and are ready to change once again - and states that he fears for Skyrim if that happens.

I really hope that they add a DLC concerning the Falmer, one last tribe that survived the transformation to goblins perhaps ? And that they would like to cure the blind ones, something in the lines of that at least, anything other then that would be disappointing :/

I have to say that I almost prefer the Falmer as the mythical elves of ages past, as presented in Bloodmoon. At least compared to what we got in Skyrim. No real diss here, it's just that why couldn't they just have put Rieklings in their stead? Although Rieklings might have been native to Solstheim, I can't remember... But you get the point.

Throughout the years of Elder Scrolls, we've gone through plenty of Goblin-like races. Goblins, Rieklings, Grummites. I'm probably missing a few here, but I just liked the Falmer more before they became "the goblins of Skyrim" I guess.

Makes me want to grab a bunch of them and get them closer to the other races, slowly getting them used to being with other races and perhaps a in a few generations be able to completely return to their rightful place among races :)

Damn this thread ruined my assumption that the Falmer were the Dwemer. Oh well. Stupid books and lore.

That never backfires.

The Dwemer aren't all like that. They divided the people amongst at least three provinces so I don't think they all were evil twisted little elves. Most probably didn't even even intend to do it when they first offered to help the Falmer, some just started poisoning their new house-mates and the others accepted it over time. They have been shown to not have a hive mind but still follow their leaders will so don't blame them all, just their kings.

Sure their treatment by the dwemer was horrible but there are a few reasons why I dont feel sorry for them:

1. They want to kill me whenever they sense me.
2. They want to kill everyone on the surface
3. They have slaves working in blackreach
4. They want to kill me.
