Does anyone seriously want motion control in Skyrim?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 6:14 am

Countless threads are popping up like "Will Skyrim use Kinect/Playstation Move?" or "SkYrIM ViRtUaL REALITY WHOAAAA" (ok made that one up). Some people seem to really support motion control in Skyrim, while others think it's the worst thing ever.

So, would you like motion controls in Skyrim (of any kind whatsoever)?

I think it's a rather vocal minority that wants motion controls in. Honestly, though, I'd prefer if they kept them out of Skyrim. Motion controls are, in their current form, rather wonky sometimes, and I'd prefer not having to deal with stuff like that while getting lost in the frozen wastes.

Motion controls for this type of game would be an absolute mess, a waste of resources, and a complete failure.

I'll say what I said in the other topic.

Why? Because Howard realizes the little he could add using things like the Kinect would be gimmicky at best. It's better to wait and let the technology evolve.

Basically Bethesda's being smart, for once.

Personally, [censored] that. Any and all extra resources needs to be used on writers.

Kinect or the PS motion controls can add a few additional layers or two. But fact is it won't be well done as it can in the future making it pointless. Additionally it takes away dev time from other aspects of the game.

Skyrim has no need for it just because games like SOCOM 4 needed an extra selling point, were pressured by Sony, or wanted to try it out.

Good for them, but Bethesda's being wise by not being a Guinea pig and waiting untill a further time. Adding in a few simplistic things just because it's "cool" is a waste of time. If you feel like you need it then you can add your own support with a Kinnect, PC Skyrim disc, and modding tools.

It would be really cool and fun to test it for a while, but Skyrim is a big game and there's tons of things to do. It would not only be really hard and take a lot of resources to implement it, but it would probably also be really tiresome to play it a lot.
So... no.
Motion control as I know it is more a fun thing to do with friends and wouldn't really fit Skyrim imo. That, or it's more of an excuse for lazy and fat people that like games to lose weight.

A virtual reality kind of thing, could be cool, real cool! But only if it works nicely and isn't dangerous to your health (radiation is more dangerous the closer you are from the source). If so, yes to that.

I would support this kinect or move only if that was the only option at no point should the player be allowed to use a regular controller :P.... What would be the point of it if you just use it for 10 minutes then never use it again.

no, not that i see it as a gimick but i think that it would take away from some of the production of what we would expect skyrim to be.

The biggest problem with kinect is that it has to use the xbox processor for some of the work.(the prototype kinects had an extra processor, but microsoft took them out to reduce cost) So you have to trade a decent amount of runtime to add kinect to your game. For something like Skyrim or Battlefield 3, if you want the game to look better than previous titles, you cant ALSO have kinect.

Why can't polls be simple "yes, no, don't care"? Why do people always have to tell a stupid story with each answer.

I don't think motion controls are a stupid gimmick, I just think they're suited for different gaming experiences.

My answer is "No". Plain "No", with no embellishment.

PC Kinect will arrive this spring. Rest is in the hand of modders and CK's flexibility. :) (I just realized spring is over, where is PC kinect SDK?)

I don't really care. I've never seen the appeal in motion control anyways, it just seems like a waste of development time

I think the Kinect is a good idea, and far better than the Wii thing and that new PS3 thing (PS3's thing is a complete knockoff of Wii. Kinect at least did something kinda different), but really I don't care. It wouldn't be implemented good. I bet if the Wii had a normal controller scheme, then Beth games would be there too. One major problem I can see with the Kinect in games like this is, you're limited to your room. Don't wanna run into a wall trying to escape a dragon. Plus the TV. How would you turn around and still see where you are going? For a game where there is no controller, I think I'll stick with Vault 112.

Oh god no. The Elder Scrolls is meant to be a semi-hardcoe RPG series, and although I have nothing personally against motion controls, for a game that is designed to be played extensively over time like TES, it'll just get tiring. Plus, I can't exactly think of many positions in the game where motion controls would actually fit, bar from mad hand flailing.
