Does anyone think ? Buying a GTX 465 for Crysis 2 is a waste

Post » Fri Oct 24, 2008 10:47 am

The new GTX 400 series is the first dx11 type gpu by nvidia, so I decided to buy a GTX 465 (cuz, it was the only Gpu that fits my budget)(Thank god for weekly salaries). Does anyone think its a waste, because my friend who owns a Alienware M17 thinks it's just panic buying. And I also like playing crysis at high settings so...

So far we have yet to learn whether or not CryEngine 3 relies on tesselation a lot. If it doesn't, buy ATI, if it does, buy nVidia.
What GPU do you have right now?

Your friend owns an alienware. Clearly he isnt the brightest person in the world. I would ignore him.

I personally am not upgrading my gpu until the game comes out because prices will be lower and there may be new cards out then.

dont you mean that the other way around? but nvidia has tesselation in their dx11 cards too. i dont get your point.
personally i dont think crysis 2 will use tessellation or atleast it will be an unimportant gimmick, cause the console versions cant support it, too much effort for one platform.
@OP your friend is an idiot for having bought an alienware product. dont trust him with hardware advise. i would suggest buying an ati cause theyre cheaper and quieter at this point. if you want to buy now! if youre aiming at a crysis 2 capable rig theres no point buying now anyway, prices will fall and the first reviews will reveal how much pure force you actually need to run it at decent settings. thats also the reason why i havent gotten a second 5850 (a single one runs crysis very high, no problem).

ATI 5*** fails at tesselation which the 400 series eats tesselation for breakfast.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone, I'm gonna hit my friend really smoothly! And I already ordered a Nvidia GTX465 from Tiger Direct.

Sorry, too!,

Why do people ask these questions AFTER they buy it?
