Does anyone think explosives will be in TES

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:59 am

I know lots of us have thought about it. But do you think it should/will ever happen?

Maybe some RARE (i.e. Hard to find) primitive grenades. And absolutely no to guns and cannons. We're not pulling a Fable.

What? Fable II is 500 years in the future and almost completely different? Oh, okay.

I wonder who's voting for canons and muskets. I wanna hear what they have to say about those being implemented into the game.

They are, they are normally referred to as Fireballs.

Really though, any alchemist worth his salt would be able to make a basic explosive or igniting compund. Put that in a bottle and have it react to force, such as the impact from the bottle hitting something, thus making it explode. Molotov Cocktails with a different name wouldn't even require an alchemist (I know they're not actually explosive, but they fit the bill), just some strong booze and a piece of cloth. Or again, an alchemical compund that ignites very easily.

There's definately room for explosives in Skyrim, pirates used a form of hand grenades, it's not too far fetched for the people of Skyrim to do the same.

The dwemer had explosives, but they are long gone now.

I do support explosive alchemical mixtures, but not gunpowder. I don't like the idea of cannons and guns in TES.

I voted yes for both because of the way the answers were stated.

1. Yes. Simple explosive would be alright. It seems the next logical step in weapons technology.
Because I wouldn’t mind it, it does seem like a logical step in weapons technology especially because it is 200 years after Oblivion.

2. Yes, eventually
Because if they continue to jump so far ahead in the time line they would almost have to, or is this the land of idiots with no ideas to improve on things or make things easier. Plus I wouldn't want to live, or play, in a world that doesn't try to figure out new ways to kill someone or something more efficiently.

A few Molotovs would be nice.

With magic, there is no need to develop gunpowder. Nirn and Earth are two entirely different worlds.

Does everyone do magic?
If so I haven't seen too many if any NPCs in the world using magic.
If not, you don't think non magic users would eventually come up with guns to protect themselves from long distance spells?

Plus your logic begs to ask why have swords then?

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk but do you get where I'm coming from. I am not even saying I want them but if the next game goes 200 years after Skyrim and another 200 then another, it would almost have to have an explosive type weapon and/or guns and cannons to be believable. I don't think I would play TESVIII Fall of the Dragonborn set 1,000 years after Skyrim and not have some advanced weapons, it would be unbelievable with the same old armor and swords. Now if it were TESVIII Fall of the Dragonborn and only set 10-100 years after Skyrim it would be more understandable to not have guns as it has only been 10-100 years.

Oblivion had mines right? So I guess small explosions are allright as long as it fits in. Cannons and Muskets though? No, never.

If you want guns and lasers and airplanes and spacecraft...mod them in. Because then I have the right to not use that mod...and then everyone is happy.

No, not because of magic but because they simply don't belong.

There might be some explosions, but no explosives. Never any explosives, it's for the better.
