I use a ps3 controller when I play the game on PC, and I use some software that makes it emulate a 360 controller so that the game will recognize it, but the way that the cursor moves when I'm playing svcks. It jumps around and isn't smooth at all (I'm comparing the 'smoothness' to how the cursor moves when I play the game on the ps3). This makes it very difficult to use ranged weapons effectively when firing freehand (without VATS), which has caused the death of a few of my dead is dead characters.

So my question is this: Can anyone who uses an actual Xbox 360 controller when playing on PC tell me if the cursor moves smoothly across the screen? If it's also jumpy and hard to work with, then I won't bother changing anything, but if everything runs the same with the 360 controller as it does when using the controller on a console, then I'll think about buying a 360 controller to use for PC.

Mine works smoothly. It's slow compared to a mouse, but smooth.
