Does Beth not want us playing as "straight" male cha

 It's like living in Alaska where you don't lose your woman, just your turn. :P

I imagine, like Alaska, there is a shortage of women.

Well, she certainly looks better than the Mister Handy she was before.

But yes, short pixie haircut, French accent, and kinda-very-kinda looks like Angelina Jolie in Hackers.

So yes, three human female romances.

And Synths are "fully functional" since 3rd Generation are indistinguishable from humans. You get to help her through that experience.

Gays are more promiscuous and have shallower relationships, so it only reflects reality. They are after all men, after a fashion

I'm assuming that the above message about "gays" being more promiscuous and our relationships being shallower is a joke, right? No one actually believes that tripe, right?

Uh yes. I do realize that. It's obvious since Skyrim that characters are designed for story sake. Surprised you felt the need to mention that as if I didn't know that already. And I'm not against playing a woman character so no "and worse, a woman" about it. Lol

My wife is dead and my son is missing. Now is not the time to be sowing wild, post-apocalyptic oats. Even though our genes would be STRONK.

Do you even understand the concept of "roleplay" in Beth. games? I've already mentioned why the "it doesn't make sense to the story" argument doesn't work. Again, after explaining multiple times already, the whole point of Beth. games revolves around you making your own story and making your character your own. We're encouraged to ignore the main story and pretend like it never happened if we so wish.

The majority of the people on this forum roleplay their own story. For example, people like to ignore the amulet in their inventory in Oblivion and ignore the main quest and make their own story and living and role in the world. Pretending you aren't Dragonborn in Skyrim and forging your own path is another example. Again, that's the way the majority of people here play Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.

Stop using the "it doesn't make sense to the story" argument. It's a weak argument and doesn't hold water considering we're encouraged to roleplay our own story. If people here want to ignore Fallout 4's main quest or act like the beginning events with your family never happened then they should.

I AM roleplaying my story, I simply choose to do so within the boundaries of the narrative. You fail to understand that a lot of people enjoy roleplaying their characters around the events present within the game. My former Scout-Sniper has found himself thrust into the future without his family. He may have promised his wife's ghost to find their son, but my character isn't a fool. He knows he was frozen between Shaun's kidnapping and his own release, and he knows there's no way to gauge how long it has been since Shaun was taken.

It's why a month after reawakening, he's tinkering around a workshop outside his old hometown instead of scouring the Wasteland for his son. It's why he hasn't taken off his wedding ring. To do either is to acknowledge what he's lost, and as a veteran trying to cope with the idea of going back to Civilian life after the Anchorage campaign...he's got too many ghosts to consider his future in any meaningful depth. The last thing on his mind is finding a replacement for his wife.

Finally, Bethesda probably lowballed the amount of female love interests because if Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion, and Skyrim have showcased, the vast majority of user created companions happen to be female love interests. Give it a few months and you'll be swimming in giant briasted, cat eared japanophiles just waiting to hop into bed with you.

It depends on the time-relationship.

In my Sole Survivor's case, he misses his wife so terribly, he wants to try and recover that feeling very badly.

He even thinks Piper looks like his wife which is objectively just making stuff up. :)

Plenty of real-life widowers marry in a frightening short period.

Albeit, most aren't in polyamorous relationships with Lois lane and a Irish Raider.

Please don't say I fail to understand something. I absolutely do understand and I'm aware that people roleplay that way. What I'm saying is, and this isn't specifically about you, that multiple times throughout this topic I've been told that my character wouldn't spend his time actively seeking a romantic interest because of what happened to him and that it doesn't make sense to the main story.

So a few people here have argued that, for that reason, I shouldn't be concerned about the romance choices available, absolutely forgetting that it's not a requirement to role play within the framework of the narrative. Bethesda themselves have encoureaged us to ignore the main story in their games if we wished.

A few counter arguments my initial Op in this topic have used the "It doesn't make sense to the story" excuse, which is a weak argument. I'm not misunderstanding that you and other players roleplay within the framework of the narrative. I'm annoyed that posters on this topic have been misunderstanding that sometimes I like to play the exact opposite, role playing outside the framework of the main narrative. I apologize for accusing you for not understanding how roleplay works but I thought you were trying to use the same, tired, and weak argument on me.

I just don't see how people can tell me that my character wouldn't be interested in seeking out a love interest because of "story" and that for those reasons, how I play is supposed to reflect that when its just not how Beth. games work. Anyway, my whole initial complaint was about the seemingly lack of female companions available for a straight, male character and I've mostly gotten over that now. Now I'm just responding to people lol and talking about role playing romance lol.

Like I said, give the modding community a month and you'll be awash with choices to sate your character's libido.

this, modders made almost everyone romanceable/lovable in New Vegas, complete with NSFW animations lol. I'm sure they'll do the same with this, it's inevitable.

and who knows there may be new romance followers/npcs added in the DLCs, we have no idea what content will be in those yet (doubt even Bethesda does lmao)

*I'm more peeved that they removed Cherchez La Femme as a perk, but kept Black Widow. Pfffft...

So out of the 13 companions only 7 can be romanced 4 guys and 3 girls that doesnt seem so bad. But if we take onto account the ghoul. (I mean come on really? Ghouls skin fall off gross!) So if we're only counting normal humans then thats three...well curie isnt a human but she can be transfered to a near perfect human working body sooooo i say it still counts so its 3 for 3

Romance is for the girls. Have a bowl of bullets in whiskey with gun powder sprinkled on top in the morning. After that get out there in the Commonwealth and kill something. Stop worrying about love!!

Damn for a second i thought i am on Bioware forums, now seriusly the ratio betwen companions is 3-4 or so it semms which isnt completly equal but its close enough.(yeah one of the females is a synth-though she does have fully human looking funcioning body, and one of the males is a ghoul), also there seem to be romancable non companions as well no idea how many and off what gender(but i did find one female so far). And btw there is no straght choices anyway since all off them are bisixual.

So than, dude, please... three 'female looking' romance options. Three 'male looking' romance options. Are you really going to hold that one ghoul against... female players? Gay players? Bethesda? I honestly don't know what you're bothered about anymore.

I'm more P.O.'d that out of the 3 romance females, you have a choice between a robot, a psychotic drug addict, and Piper, who would be fine if she didn't effing smoke. Literally none of the companions are appealing as a result.

Quite simply, to make the number look worse than it is, the Ghoul counts but the Synth doesn't.

If we ignore both Curie and the Ghoul, narrowing it strictly to normal humans, then we have 2:3. Not that big a difference.

If we're that strict then Danse should be out as well... and we're left with 2:2. Oh, but there's that optional encounter with a female... So 3:2 for the gents! ;)

I'm not bothered about it anymore. I got over it the same night I posted this topic. I'm just replying to comments now. My initial annoyance only really lasted a couple hours. Now, anyone who wants to post here and chat about it, I'll respond.
