Does Bethesda listen to the forums?

Post » Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:00 am

So I've been looking at alot of threads recently, suggesting things people want added in the game and alot of polls about it as well, such as people thinking swimming animations are bad, wether people want butterfly catching, fishing with poles, etc, etc. But what if posting suggestions and stuff is pointless? How do we even know the team working on Skyrim looks at the threads? I know there are some forum moderators locking and sometimes posting on threads but those are just forum moderators. I don't really know of any game developers who you could tell took suggestions from community besides Notch, creator of minecraft, who pretty much implements everything that modders make or suggest and puts it in the game.

Anyway, i'm just curious if people are just passing the time by sharing ideas or if Bethesda is actually taking some hints from us. Sorry if this is a stupid thread or if it is in the wrong section.

Of course they do. They have said over and over and over that they pay attention to the forums. I bet you will even get one or two of them to post here, simply to say, "We do listen."

It's way too late to be suggesting gameplay changes. I doubt they lurk this forum anyway. Hopefully some Bethesda dev quotes this post and proves me wrong but it's mainly just a place for us fans to discuss the game.

Yes dev team members do look at the forums
Idk if they take ideas though

And if notch implemented a feature from the forums that people wanted
Why would u say he stole it? That doesnt make since and is rude

Yes, they look at the forums. It's too late to change anything though. Just a little over a month till launch. They're full on Beta testing and feature locked now.

They do look at these forums but they don't incorporate all the dumb ideas we have here because we are a very small part of their audience for Skyrim

BGS staff snoop on these forums more often than I think most people realise... There's usually a few of them online daily. And probably more reading the forums while offline.

Does that mean they're going to act on things people suggest or complain about? Very unlikely at this stage. Who knows though. Perhaps they'll take some of the feedback on board for TES VI.

Where do you think M'aiq the Liar got all his lines from in Oblivion?

I'll be shocked if there isn't such an NPC doing the same kind of mocking in Skyrim.

M'aiq is confirmed to be back
Sammi ran into him during his playthrough
A dev even came up who playtested it and congradulated him saying he never found him and he played it over 200 hours

Which is believable cuz i never found m'aiq until my 2nd playthrough in oblivion

Edit: lol i was so excited to find him i cloned 200 calipers and dropped them in front of him just to see what he would do.....
Long story short he doesnt like my calipers...he knows fakes when he sees'em

Yeah it is pretty late in development and the game will probably go gold in around mid october, but i'm sure they have time to fix technical issues like maybe swimming and low-poly textures that sammi mentioned, no?

I would think that they will sometimes check in unnoticed to see some of our opinions and sometimes, yet rarely, replay to one of the topics. That being said, with the due date a little more then a month away on big projects like this, I would hope that they keep themselves out of the forum while at work and focus on the project at hand, which is at the moment Skyrim.

Well i can only base my thoughts off what i cAn put together from hands-on and i got this

1. Eurogamer had a june build
2. So they had from june till now to fix stuff
3. June build had main gameplay elements but alpha animations and textures
4. Journalists played a later build
5. Some even played a current beta build on PC
6. They sAid it looked amazing
7. So going off that im gonna say they've had time And most likely have already fixed most of these issues....but then again u wont know til its out

But bethesdas a huge AAA company so i'd be surprised if they let huge things like animations and textures remain unfixed
(some ppl on this forum take it as gospel when they hear an alpha build has bad textures lol, they immediately bash bethesda like "oh i knew it!! And here i thought they were a good company!!!)

I hate to be a naysayer, but I don't think they do. After all they continuously do stupid crap like blocking off parts of the world with unclimbable mountains, dumbing down the game in terms of weapon and armour types, and creating generic NPCs instead of people you can actually talk to and have names.
If they'd spent some time on the forums they'd realise the things that we like and don't like. For example, why go and restrict the player's exploration when they know that being able to 'go wherever you want whenever you want' is one of our most cherished values of the series? Oh that's right, they don't know because they don't pay attention to us.
