Does my character fail?

Hey gang,

I'm looking for your opinions about this character. I've never played Oblivion, so I don't really have a good benchmark for how I should be performing at this level etc. It seems I get beat up quite a bit on 50% difficulty. Random encounters sometimes have me quaffing potions as if I were in a dungeon crawl. I'm using nGCD because I really didn't like the vanilla leveling system. I understand that nGCD rewards specialization, but I've just been doing my own thing and letting the cards fall where they may. I guess what I'm looking for are suggestions on how to make a stronger character or verification that this character is valid or not...what I'm experiencing is normal?

I posted in the nGCD tejon thread, but hadn't received a response yet. (which surprised me with the activity this board has!)

I think the primary reason your character is getting beaten up is because of 46 endurance. Having 50 strength doesn't help either. Those stats are far too low for a level twenty character. And in general, well, you're just not specialized anywhere, so you're stats across the board are quite low, which is kinda disastrous for a level 20 character. So...basically you need to try and specialize a bit more. Its an annoying aspect of Oblivion, but the game is quite punishing is you don't focus on one particular type of combat.

Right on, thanks. That's what I was looking for and what I figured.

I guess next question is how do I remain focused. I'd like a conjurer/rogue I guess. You can't help but heal yourself w/ restoration. Making potions is addictive. Is it a matter of changing my primary skills or just not doing anything other than what I'm focused on. I could live w/o marksman, but I like sneak attacking people with my bow.

...An alternate approach would be to un-level/rebalance your game by adding an overhaul, such as Tamriel Immersion Experience or Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. Taken that way, the world changes less (or not at all) as you level up, so even the most lackadaisical approach eventually ends with the player being stronger than the vast majority of enemies. This would keep you from needing to change your combat style, although of course it will affect you in a lot of other unexpected ways.

If you're not interested in specializing, my recommendation would be to use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13879 Realistic Leveling is not quite so geared toward specialization as nGCD.

Thanks for the suggestion. I saved all my previous setups and installed the new one. The raw numbers are similar, but my magic pool is greater in the new one. I figure I'll give it a try for a while and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate everyone's input here. It really helps me.
