Does ESO Work on New Macbooks yet?

Post » Wed Mar 12, 2014 9:42 pm

In the first few Betas, ESO's graphics bugged out on new Iris Graphics cards, found in Macbooks and Macbook Pros from late 2013 and 2014 making the game unplayable and forcing those of us mac users lucky enough to still have their old computers to dig them up and run the game on low settings. Zenimax Online was aware of the issue and earlier said they were working with Apple to fix it. My question: has it been fixed?

Here's a copy pasta of the patch notes from the beta form:

Mac Client
General

  • Fixed an issue where copying one character out of a block of text would instead copy the entire block of text.
  • Fixed an issue where copy/paste keyboard commands were causing the game to occasionally freeze.
  • Fixed an issue where players with Iris Pro GPUs were seeing many copies of every NPC on-screen.
  • Fixed an issue where only the first letter of a copied text block would paste when attempting to paste text into the chat window in-game.

if the issue you are referring to is the third one, then I assume so. That's the only mention I saw of a Mac GPU bug though.

The Patch Notes posted by @Putok are from the current PTS notes (v.0.181) which is not confirmed to be rolled out for the forthcoming beta weekend. However I anticipate it will be.

The note is itself rather ambiguous. The fix in place is for the HD5000 series of graphics cards found in some later MacBook Pro and Macbook Air models. It was the graphics glitch issue related to environmental effects. This is a workaround which should enable those Macs to be playable and awaiting a proper fix from Apple as it is a core OpenGL support issue for those GPUs.

I do not have a Mac with that card so can't check myself.

I copy/pasta'd them from the weekend beta forums. They're already up, even if you haven't gotten your email notice yet. Which means we'll all be getting to try some of the new changes :-D. Imp edition and pre-order features (imperial race, any race any faction, etc) are also all unlocked for this weekend's stress test.
