Does Everyone Use QTP 3 ?

Post » Tue Jan 04, 2011 2:37 am

I use QTP3R, its the only higher quality one I enjoy currently.... that was until I got the ATP series I like them alot more and use them over QTP.
I highly suggest people useing them.

I really like a number of the ATP road textures. I wish the ATP textures were centralized. If the ATP package becomes more complete, I might switch over to that + Bomret's.

Detailed Terrain is better than any traditional texture mod used by itself, at least for terrain. Besides, I tried QTP3R once and I couldn't stand the architecture. You can't just run a noise filter on everything and act like you've added artistic value. It looks awful.

I agree the ATP roads are very nice. In my opinion most of the ATP textures are the best of the options available and are a great addition to a base of vanilla or QTP3. Unfortunately the author seems to have taken down all his work recently.

I really hope they're just offline temporarily and that AmpolX is getting ready for a big release of all his work. His textures were absolutely wonderful and it would be a terrible shame if they're lost to the community.

I liked how there's always been lots of texture replacers for Morrowind and most of them were totally different from one another. Rocks looked different, wood looked different, you could always look forward to a whole new graphical experience everytime you changed a texture pack.
Once there's a texture pack for Oblivion that makes everything, mainly towns and nature look totally different, like say from another material, type of rock, etc, ... that's the texture pack I'll probably use. It's nice that there are all the texture enhancing hi res replacers out there, and I know that ATP really changes the look of things, but it's still pretty much hi res for my machine to handle :/

Found this thread linked on Tomalong's website. I guess since it has been so long with no sighting of these mentioned textures it is lost.

No they were made available again and again they were pulled. You missed the boat.

All that is available is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34175 They are good as are the other textures, but now we have Vurt making textures.
AmpolX said he might repost them on TESAlliance, not sure if that happened.

With MTGR, AmpolX, CorePC, and now Vurt. There is a lot of choices out there for textures.

I'm so over QTPIII which is a fast way to cripple your game and not worth it.

I use a mix, installed in the following order and then overwriting earlier replacers with subsequent ones when appropriate. Not all replacers touch everything:

Vibrant Textures
QTP3 Redimized
Bomret's SI Textures
Improved Doors & Flora
Improved Trees & Flora - I & II
Improved Signs
Improved Fruits, Vegetables & Meats
Mythic Animals
Mythic Creatures
Better Amulet Replacer
Better Ring Replacer

I typically play with all video and LOD settings at the max, but have Streamline automatically adjust it if FPS falls too low. Normally my FPS is at 40, the max I've set in Oblivion Stutter Remover, although it can drop into the 20s in some areas like the IC Waterfront. VRAM usage varies between 700 Mbytes and 1.2 Gbytes outdoors. 1.2 Gbytes is more typical for heavily modded areas like the IC Better Cities Waterfront and UL Bravil Barrowfields in combination with BC Blood & Mud. System memory usage typically is around 2 Gbytes but I've seen it as high as 2.7 Mbytes after playing one session for a long time.

I don't think I would use QTP3 if I didn't have 2 Gbytes of VRAM, however, as it does push the memory usage.

I have an ATI 4870 with 1GB RAM.

I run QTP3, all UL, RPG trees and grass, Better Cities.

My vram goes between 600-1300 (yes, over 1GB at times), but with the 4GB patch and SR I get smooth performance and rarely crash. My CTDs happen when I add FCOM because of the NPC content I would think. But now playing with just TIE and ROM I get a stable great looking game.

Testures are like art, they appeal to different people in different ways. Vanilla looks good enough but I think QTP3 is spectacular. I optimized my meshes and have no performance issues.

If you want to see how your computer handles it just install vanilla and QTP3, All Natural with Real Lights, AWLS, SR, and 4GB patch only. For me, that configuration gives me pretty good FPS (well, at least over 30 FPS 80% of the time). With BC and ULs added plus enhanced vegatation I still get 25+ outside, even outside city walls. The drop comes in the BC IC market mostly down to 14-25 FPS depending where I am looking.

Now, if you start adding overhauls like FCOM then that is another story.

ATI 5870 here.

just changed from QTP3 full to QTP3R, and really there is absolutely no loss of of visual effects. I'm glad i'm using QTP3R now, even with a high end computer lots of texture mods together impacts the performance quite greatly.

QTP3R user here. Used to use just QTP3, but decided to switch to Redimized to see if it help reduced stuttering and haven't turned back since. I see absolutely no reason not to use QTP3R in exchange for QTP3, because there is absolutely no loss in quality and it uses 1/2 the VRAM that QTP3 uses.

But now, after seeing screenshots of Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla, I'm debating on switching to that to free up some resources. Even though it doesn't look as "crisp" as QTP3R.

Either ways, I didn't know QTP3 and it's reductions used it's own meshes (used OMOD installer), so I guess I'm off to PyFFI my meshes folder. :user:

I don't use QTP (R or not) even though I probably could (4890 1gb). What I don't like about it are the often overdone normal maps (more bumpiness != better imo) and the huge amount of compression artifacts that become more visible than in vanilla due to that. I also don't like that it only covers a few parts of the game while others are untouched (like SI, mods and even a lot of textures from the vanilla game). And finally I like my performance as it is, so in the end it's not worth it for me (even though I doubt that QTPR would have a huge impact on performance).

They will be back up on TESAlliance soon... Everything I ever had released will be put back up but then that's the end of it.

Some of the textures in QTP3 are amazing. For example, I prefer QTP3's Ayleid textures over all other replacers I've seen. But I also like the vanilla feel, so I'm using Bomret's normal as a base, mixing and matching with some sets from QTP 3 Redimized, Koldorn's cave set, everything by AmpolX, everything by Mikal33.

I too use a mix of different replacers. QTP3 has the best Architecture (cities, forts and aylied ruins) IMO, but I prefer Mtgr for Landscape and Trees. Mikal33's Trees are the best looking but they are four times the size of Mtgr's trees, but only slightly better looking IMO. As Arthmoor mentioned, even with an 1GB video card you can easily reach a VRAM usage higher than 1GB and I've found Mtgr's textures to have the best eye candy to VRAM usage ratio.
I also prefer Koldorn's Sewers and Ampol's Caves.
I've tried just about every replacer that is out there, except for some that Ampol withdrew.

Thank you AmpolX - Heres one user who has heard of them talked about with high regard in various places but never experienced having them installed, I think I must have rejoined the Oblivion scene a bit too late. They will be ideal for my new machine.

As I stateed above and others since that the QTPIII is a heavy replacer.

I can and have used it but as soon as you add FCOM+200 other mods - no way ever. I think the newer textures coming out look as good. And Oblivion Graphics Extender can make things look amazing.

I'm using about 4 shaders and Vurts textures in nehrim and it looks fantastic.

I'd use er but i have a low-end system so a huge texture pack like QTPIII is not an option for me. 128mb's of VRAM is not a fun thing to deal with

This is Vurts very early version release of hiis texture pack.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=6440

I`ve not tried it myself yet,I use a combination of QTP3R,Mikal33 and most of Ampolx`s with a bit of MTGR thrown in aswell. :P
Mix all that with ENB and ScreenEffects and I`m pretty pleased with the result.

Yeah but the esp does not work so you have to load shaders with the shaders.txt

Not really a major point for me as I'm using more the shaders that are not supported with the esp anyway.

I use CorePC's Vibrant textures, which are a great alternative for a low to mid-range video card. They also touch more than QTP3 - such as Oblivion realms.

I used Vibrant when I last had Oblivion loaded. This time I'm not sure what to use as I have loaded Nehrim & am looking for a good texture pack for it.
QTP is being recomended but a huge number of the textures in the pack are for oblivion cities that don't exist in Nehrim so I'm looking for a lighter pack with fewer specialized textures
