Does Fallout need a mount?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 8:34 pm

In fallout 4 we have a dense and beautiful wasteland to explore. Our adventures roaming the wastes and discovering new locations is often what's most memorable. I usually try not to fast travel just to have a more immersive experience, but this can be tedious when you have a long road ahead of you. Having a mount would certainly help, but then we lose the ability to really explore the world; fallout just becomes a games where we are riding a mount everywhere.

Do you think adding a mount to fallout would enhance or limit the experience.

Actually, to me personally, a mount would ruin the experience of wandering down a busted road with the radio on, casting side glances here and there, scanning for hostiles or landmarks of interest...Sure a mount would help me get where I'm going quicker...But I'd lose the feeling of traveling that I loved in Fallout 3, had lost in New Vegas, and got back in Fallout 4.

No. I have no interest in mounts or rides of any sort in Fallout. I totally agree with the post above about how a ride would ruin the experience of cautiously picking through the wasteland, keeping a cautious eye out for danger.

I'd love a motorcycle if the map were bigger. But as it is, faster movement speed would make the map feel too small. Or else I wouldn't feel the need for it and I'd never use it (as was the case for me in Oblivion and Skyrim).

I think the map is too dense to have a map.

It's not unprecedented for the Fallout player character to have a car, but I think adding vehicles into the mix would necessitate a lot of game design changes. It would require a game that combines aspects of the Bethesda open world games with the FPS action of Id Software's games and the car combat and customization of games like Mad Max and Auto Assault. In other words...Rage 2.

Give us an endless supply of Vertibird signals and you have an excellent mount for the player (as long as you're a BOS member) and you've the perfect mount for late in the game when you've wandered everywhere......up until then it would be like Skyrim, I'd use it once then get sick of dismounting/mounting to investigate and fight, so for me it would be a waste of Bethesda's time and resources.

Does it need one? Not at all.

Would it be tight to ride a deathclaw into battle? Oh hell yeah.

It would be cool to have a mount for fun via a mod. But I think a mount would detract from the experience if it was included in the vanilla game, for the reasons that others have already stated.

A Brahmin would be fun.

The Vertibird is cute, but let's face it:

It's a hat again isn't it B)

This. I would love a motorcycle. All customise able of course. My Red Rocket garage would see the power armours turned out and it would become a bike workshop. If love this so much.

I don't think the map is right for it. But a pack brahmin would be cool. If it worked like any other container, nomadic players would not need a home base. it would probably keep me from ever using fast travel if I could keep everything on it instead of having to go back to my homebase regularly for stuff.

I would like Mounts but they could also increase the normal movespeed instead. With Mounts Fallout also would need a bigger World.

I keep trying to ride a Deathclaw but it works about as well as you think it would.

I know, but the seller is aboard the the BOS airship (I haven't seen anyone else selling them yet) and the airship can become unavailable through the main story.

You get powerarmor, fast travel, and one faction even gives you SPOILERS!!!. What need is their for yet another way to zip through the intricate and well detailed landscape? Maybe (very big maybe) if it was a bigger map with more dead space in it, but as it stands I see no need for yet another mode of transport.

Hmmm, yes and no. No because it doesn't need it and the map is not that big, plus it is pretty dense. Yes for the cool factor if it was a motorcycle with sidewagon (or whatever it is called in english) for the follower, and perhaps a couple of leatherbags on the side for carrying stuff around (goodbye home-base!) DLC's including map sections, could be cool for making the map bigger, and thus open up for that possibility B)

In English we call it a "sidecar". Not that I've ever ridden with one.
