does gear affect levelled dweller HP gain?

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 6:53 am

when the dweller is like level 5 or 6? i know that for lvl 1 dwellers, it is HP = 105 + (level - 1) (2.5+0.5(E+Gear))

Does that mean that if I have a level 30 dweller, getting him to wear Endurance gear until he is level 50 will not make a huge difference?

Also, If i were to train him to 10 Endurance at level 30, is it worth it in terms of hp gain?

The gear and endurance level effect HP at every level up. It's not retroactive though, so the guy with 10+ endurance from 5 to 50 will have more HP then the 30 to 50 guy. A Reddit poster created a https://www.reddit.com/r/foshelter/comments/3ibkjj/endurance_affects_hp_only_during_leveling_not/.

Oh good God is that a joke. If I'm reading that correctly, that tutorial says that equipment has a permanent effect on a dweller's endurance when they're leveling up? So a dweller wearing a outfit that adds +5 or +7 to endurance influences permanent HP? Equipment should not have any influence on how high stats increase after a level up.

Yes it does, I put sturdy wasteland gear on all my level one dwellers, train them to full SPECIAL then send them out to explore. They come back as a level 50 with the most HP I can give since I've yet to get an outfit with higher than +5 Endurance.

Yes, you are reading that correctly. :glare: I have quite a few dwellers in my vault that can't do wasteland exploration because I didn't find out soon enough.

Yeah, horrible game design. All sorts of cool gear becomes worthless, because it doesn't add +endurance. At least on survival mode, where speeding up production doesn't matter nearly as much as keeping dwellers alive that take so long to build up.

I've also wondered if it matters whether the dweller wears the gear all the time, or if you can swap out a single +endurance item, to put on every dweller, before clicking the level-up arrow. If so, that's also terrible, because it's a huge payoff, for doing something that gets incredibly tedious after a while.

It only has an effect when they rank up, not level up the stats. I get all mine to all 10s and the slap on the best +5E kit I've got and send them out exploring. Usually takes two exploring runs on survival, but then they're noticeably tougher than the others.

The only real pain is keeping track of them as you can't see the raw HP stat in game.

It only works on explorers? I'm talking about level-up, when they're in the vault. They won't level-up, until you click the little green arrow. If you select them, you can change their gear, before clicking the arrow. I was doing this for a little while, with no idea if it was working, but decided constantly swapping gear around was too much of a hassle to be worth it.

oh, sorry I see what you mean. I doubt it had any effect, it will be what the are wearing at the point of leveling up. It works with dwellers inside the vault too, it's just that exploring is the quickest way to level up.

wait does that mean that if my dweller is exploring with endurance gear but he swaps it for a higher level armor that had no +E stats, he loses the hp gain if he ranks up? can he rank up on his own in the wasteland?

if he can't, could i just make him wear wasteland gear just before i hit the rank up icon on him?

Yes, dwellers swapping out endurance gear for something else won't gain as many hitpoints when they level up. They also level up automatically out there. Make sure you send dwellers out with a blue rare suit so they don't change it(they don't change one blue rare for another blue rare, and there's no such thing as legendaries in the wasteland after the 1.2 patch).
