Y does no one want a arena..?

A arena would fit into RSI perfectly. There could be multiple arenas in each province. You could bet money and goods on itself and stake.

Wouldn't bother me, though I've always taken the arena to be the creation of an established empire well on its way into debauchery and an inevitable fall. Might not fit in the current timeline, since the people would have no lack of "blood sport" to distract themselves.

Usually because that type of PVP results in a rise of meathead dudebros who do nothing but circlejerk and run their mouths off. Nobody wants them around.

There is no need for an Arena, There are better PVP fights taking place in Cyrodiil. the roaming groups tracking down enemy groups on the battlefield is far more fun and competative that standing in an arena that has no effect on the war. everthing you can do in an arena system you can do in Cyrodiil. Even 1v1 and ambushes. Also they want Arenas because they dont want to pull people out of Cyrodiil, they want all the different types of PVP to happen there.

if there's absolutely no rewards, i wouldn't particularly mind an arena where people could duel

if small scale pvp, is implemented that gives rewards, it will hurt the cyrodill campaigns to much,

i have never played a game that had instanced small scale pvp and also successful alliance warfare

i have been in some that didn't initialy have small scale pvp, and they had good open world pvp then small scale was implemented and open world died...

You can do all of that without any ingame intervention. It was discussed in another thread last night. All it takes is a few alliance members to gather around in a circle and start pairing up, taking bets and fighting. A good populated area like the wayshrine that drops you off in Cyrodiil.

It won't take long for more organized events promoted through guilds for everyone in the alliance and even world events. However, the later risks the chance of turning into an all out campaign.

This.

Although a formal arena guild like Oblivion could be interesting. Different teams. It might feel like a fragment within the alliances already though.

So there's no arenas at all... Not everyone cares about cyrodil, for example bandits dont care. There will be people who care about themselves so saying that a arena won't fit into the lore is stupid

Because I despise PvP with the burning passion of 10,000 suns?

I'm happy for those who enjoy it, and I hope they have a blast in ESO, but otherwise I've zero interest in PvP in any form. For my subscription dollars, PvE and crafting is what it's all about.

World PVP/RVR = tons of fun... Arenas never really struck out other then claiming king of the hill vs a few... but RVR with chance of becoming emperor??? now THAT is a goal worth shooting for... will it be tough?? I believe so... and justified with all the reaping of the benefits of being one... :)

I would love an arena system but starting your cause off by saying "people r dumb" is probably not going to win you a lot of converts.

Oh you will find yourself gathering crafting materials in Cyrodiil and exploring. Coming across one of your keeps being attacked and going into it to repair it as a crafter. You will probably hang out at it and craft, or even at your guilds keep. when catapult balls start flying in and you see the enemy players outside attacking and keep gate door slowly breaking open, it will give you a spark, and you will want to try to save the keep.

Trust me, many people have said exactly what you did back in Darkage of Camelot when they came from Everquest. And everyone of them found them self loving the PVP zone. it doesnt have to exactly be fight enemy players but just being their and the unknown and the sense of wanting to help protect your home lands. ESO has the exact same system, I bet you will fin your self being part of many keep defenses.

Starting a thread with "people r dumb" is a GREAT way to get them to agree with you

... are you aware that this is an M rated game, and you have to be 18 to play? :/

It has nothing to do with lore, and everything to do with balance.

Arena ruined WoW's balance, because trying to balance the game for 1v1 combat is ridiculous. Some classes are meant to be effective counters to others. Take that away, and everyone ends up being exactly the same.

Only if there were no rewards and it had no influence on the balance of the rest of the game.

Because small scale PvP like Arena battles take a higher skill level to succeed in, and the majority of the player base would rather just fight in large battles where ranged and AE skills are all that matter.

Arena style PvP is competitive, evenly matched pvp. There is no zerging, there is no outnumbering your opponent... you just have to go in and win with strategy and skill. Obviously some players don't like this style of PvP, and would rather just sit in a large group spamming AE heals, ranged damage, or PvDoor a keep.

Personally, I enjoy both world pvp and arena style pvp, and I also love dueling. If there was a type of PvP I didn't enjoy, I wouldn't create false information to put it down. It is what it is.

So there can't be an arena where you could stake your goodies against each other? You don't have to go there but other people can. I don't see why it would be such a big issue. This is why I started it with people r dumb. You guys aren't thinking. I'm not talking about playing in the arena for points u spend on armor. I'm talking about staking money and ur own loot and someone else does to and whoever wins gets all the stake. There
Could be templar vs templar battles or other ones. There are so many ways to make this work.

You don't think people would game a betting system to exploit it for profit?

I definitely agree, SOME people "r dumb".
