Does sanctuary hills ever get attacked?

Post » Sun Feb 07, 2016 5:30 am

I had an epic attack on Sanctuary. Three groups of raiders from three different directions (the path to the vault, the main bridge, and along the river to the west). They took out about half my turrets with grenades before I could run around and get them all. It was glorious.

Sadly, Marcy Long survived the battle. :-(

Did you fast travel there or did it happen when you were there a while chilling? And thats epic.

Apprently guys ive been reading patch notes on new patch being released next week on ps4. It mentions fixing a bug that made settlements not generate raids properly.

This is probably why some of us have lots of raids and others so few.

If raids truly happen more often and when i am there (I am at sanctuary hills a long time usually cause my house is awesome) then this game will continue to ruin my social life

yeah it can happen like that, the attacks seem random so basically in any situation it can happen its not just when you're far away and get the message, it can happen when you're at your settlement doing something and it will happen.

Kind of related: I never really developed Red Rocket. I started to use it as a depot to store companions I'm not currently traveling with. I also use it as my power armor storage site. I like having them all in the same place so that if I want to switch companions I don't have to worry about not remembering where I sent them.

So yesterday I stopped by there to store some newly acquired power armor pieces I had found and just as I arrive there is a super mutant attack. Before I even realize what is going on Piper, Cate, Curie, Dog Meat, Strong and Hancock all rush out to meet the attack. Keep in mind that most of the companions have been rearmed with much better weapons.

Once the fight was over I went to search the dead mutants. All I kept saying to myself was "Well what did you think was going to happen you dumb---es."

I ran through the game 2 times. This time around I invested more into Sanctuary with food and water. And it has been attacked more.

Contrary to game tips, formula is actually (food+water)/10>defense. Also every settler adds 1/2 the defense unit, but it's hidden. Food and water stored IN THE WORKBENCH counts too!

And last, no matter how large your defense value is, there will always be at last 2% chance of attack per day. And any individual settlement can be attacked only once per week.

So you need 1 defense unit for 10 food or water units (including food stored in a workbench) and chance of attack will be 2%.

For every settler, you can have 5 food or water (on top of defence).

I had 4 rad scorpions attack Sanctuary once, other than that the occasional raider atttack, but it's rare compared to some other settlements.

Sanctuary Hills got attacked a few times in my game. One time was when I was too busy modding weapons in Sanctuary Hill to bother with defending. Apparently two deathclaws decided they were tired of living and attempted to attack my settlement.

interesting

so the exclamation mark next to defense (if not greater than food+water production) is completely different?

i know there is always a 2% chance no matter what, but i dont keep food nor water in workbenches. I empty out water for sale (it doesnt stack it gets overwritten by purifiers anyway) and dont keep store food in there otherwise it disappears. Only food in there is left over production, which is a constant

but it seems its only ever my most heavily defended settlements that get hit? evn if i have settlements with hardly any defense its only the strong one that get attacked?

in my first game (i played this the longest so far) both sanctuary and abernathy farm were my most heavily defended settlements and they were very heavily defended yet they were the only settlements that ever got attacked? towards the end of that game i couldnt be bothered really so i had a couple of settlements that were only lightly defended but still had high food/water production but they never got attacked?

and in my new game i only bother to have defense at the point that its just above food+water and i have 3 settlements that i have an exclamation point next to defense, tenpines/the hippy commune/starlight drive in. those 3 places have waaaaaaaay more food and water than defense (and 4,2,2 settlers respectively, i mean starlight drive in has 80 water production + 12 food production around 30-50 water and about 20 food in workbench and only 16 defense) yet the only settlement attacks ive had so far are at abernathy farm this game which has 10 settlers 24 food 30 water (workbench theres about 20 food and 18-30 water at a time) and 160 defense

its my most heavily defended settlement, its not my most productive settlement either and its the only one that gets attacked?

just seems really odd

does the game roll for each settlement and have an attack for everyone that indicates? or does it stop as soon as it gets an attack? does it average it all out and sees if theres an attack then if theres one it randomly assigns a settleemnt for attack?

Good to know the plain also get attacked haha.

I`ve been playing way over 400 hours and all my settlements do get attacked from time to time... but for whatever reason Jamaican plain has never been attacked ever by anything..

Occasionally, but nothing on the magnitude of Ten PInes, Croup or Oberland.

My Sanctuary has only been attacked twice. Once by super mutants and the second time by lowly bandits. Mama Murphy even managed a kill there.

A funny thing happened on my main file last night though. I got alerted to an attack at Sommerville place. When I got there it was 2 legendary Glowing Radstags of all things. They were almost too amusing to put down. I did get a freezing 10mm pistol off one of them though so that was neat.

Yeah I've never had to worry about Sanctuary either because I made the choice to make the Red Rocket my PC's home early in the game, for similar RP reasons. So all of my companions and stuff are here, rather then actually in Sanctuary. Between the companions I inadvertently stuck there, the place having its own defensive turrets and BoS patrols that love to drop right across the lake for some reason, nothing's ever really gotten close to the place's own defenses. Which is ironic given how comparably underdeveloped it is to the station.

i have only had one or two attacks at santuary in my current save (12 days time now)

1 at red rocket

a bazillion at the slog, warwick, and a few other farm heavy locations....

finch was attacked by ferals and the corpses never got removed and i never had another attack on that location or another attack by ferals anywhere else...

level 80+ super mutant attacks on somerville place are usually some of the most dangerous....

santuary only has enough food to support it, i doubled up on the water, it has crazy high defense and exactly 25 citizens.

sunshine tidings has 37 citizens, enough food and water to support it, nearly every working citizen is working on a salvage station.. that place gets attacked more often it seems.

warwick and the slog have 25 or so citizens each, over 100 food in both locations and warwick has 160 water. both come under attack pretty often, warwick is better defended by automated defenses and slog is 5 HE turrets + nearly everyone with a flamethrower, which the citizens looted themselves from all the times a provisioner getting attacked by the forged has called out the ENTIRE TOWN. however both have a defense rating just enough to stay 'green'. Warwick has 3 HLasers and a missile launcher but those only turn on with the siren. otherwise the settlement sits at 25 something defense... The Slog has only 46 defense, due to heavy turrets and a artillery cannon.

then there is somerville place... combined with defense over 200 or so and it still comes under attack despite not even having enough food and water to be self sufficient.

My Sanctuary was just attacked by raiders today. Sure enough, they spawned inside the walls right next to my market area, which is filled with very well armed shopkeepers and pretty well patrolled by my guards AND was well within range of the turrets guarding the main gate.

They didn't last very long. B)
