Does Skyrim make you the champion of fantasy!

Post » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:20 am

So ever since I've returned to the world of Tamriel thanks to my lurchase of the Elder Scrolls Anthology (possibly one of my favourite or hated gaming purchases) I've started to notice my tastes in pretty much other mediums I enjoy be it TV, games and movies sliding toward the fantasy genre.

In the past I beleive that I was able to enjoy both fantasy and sci fi in equal ammounts, I'd constantly be in a toss up between Star Wars or Lord Of The Rings, but now I can say I very much an advocte for the Lord of The Rings and I think this is In nk small part down to how much I'm enjoying Skyrim! Its just such a nice place to be in comparrisson to any sci - fi setting that springs to mind.

I suppose what I'm trying to ask is that age old question. Is it sci-fi or fantasy for you? Or are you open minded enohgh to enjoy them both equally?

I certainly can't and I blame the quality of Skyrim!

Cheers guys

Both, but I lean heavily toward fantasy.

I have always said that Sci-fi and fantasy were my favorites, and they still are equals. I suspect they always will be.

Picking one or the other is not gonna happen for me.

I enjoy both.

Fantasy has always been my go-to genre, although my interest in medieval fantasy in particular is encouraged by Lord of the Rings, The Elder Scrolls, etc. Never was very interested in sci-fi.

I go more toward Sci-fi, probably because I'm an engineering major and have been the math and science type my whole life. I still love fantasy and generally go through stages of preferring one over the other with regard to the video games or TV shows I'm actively playing/watching.

No preference. IMO the advantages of the two from a storytelling perspective are nearly identical.

I've always leaned towards fantasy over sci fi since i was a kid (well the first novel i read was The fellowship of the ring when i was in grade 3, then the other LOTR novels right afterwards).

Though lately in recent years, after playing fallout and whatnot i've actually started leaning more towards sci fi, haha. I'm actually writing a novel that's sort of sci fi and fantasy clash (more so a fantasy world), but i find myself enjoying writing about the sci fi aspects like plasma guns, spaceships and technology in general. But since it's a big clash of both genres i am getting my fill writing both aspects into the story.

I enjoy both fantasy and science fiction plus horror. The more the better as long it takes me to another world.

Both. Although I do feel Sci-fI is the genre with more potential in literary terms.

Yes fantasy is more emotional inspiration to better ones self while science fiction plants the seeds to make the impossible possible.

In a lot of ways Star Wars is more fantasy than sci-fi; there is magic (the force) sword fighting, monsters... all the lasers, robots and spaceships are just window-dressing and dont actually have plausible scientific explenations.

LOTR might also be winning out as your favourite fantasy setting not only because youve recently enjoyed playing Skyrim, but also because The Hobbit is currently showing in theatres... I wouldnt be surprised if its fallen off your 'fantasy favorite' radar in a few years, perhaps taking a backseat to Star Wars again since there will be new Star Wars movies coming out over the next few years.
