Does Speed mode even hold a candle to invisiblity?

Post » Sun Mar 13, 2011 4:41 am

Most of the maps on crysis 2 are small and even thought im still learning how to improve my k/d past 1 I dont see speed mode being used very oftently. Personally I think that its overpowered when compared to the other classes and I never really see a reason to use speed when compared to stealth.

Most of the time after I spawn I just go invisible and go try to get the jump on enemies. Sometime sin bigger maps it makes sense to use speed but most of the fight is usually without 30 ft of you and its more worth while to run there in stealth.

Also, I may be wrong but it doesn't look like sprinting in stealth mode drains your speed faster than walking in it. I don't see why I, someone who isn't very good at this game, should ever consider using speed mode. Unless i'm missing something.

You can sprint in stealth mode pretty effectively and there is no way for enemies to tell where you are unless they are completely focused in.

It appears you're not familiar with the MASSIVE list of changes in Crysis 2 compared to Crysis/Warhead, especially regarding the nanosuit :P

1) Speed mode is gone. Or more accurately, it's always turned on. You just hold shift (i.e. run), you don't get a choice whether running drains energy or not, unlike Crysis/Warhead.
2) Sprinting (or even moving) while cloaked is supposed to drain energy faster. That's so people don't abuse cloak and run around while invisible for ridiculous periods of time. It's to encourage more strategic use of cloak instead of just having it on all the time. You can only sprint + cloak for maybe 5-7 seconds before you're out of energy (and fully vulnerable).
3) "Speed mode" i.e. running is very effective, enemies are more likely to get the jump on you because they get around a lot faster than you...unless you're camping. Also hitting a sprinting target = more difficult to bring him down before he gets behind cover.

Play a bit longer and get more used to switching between modes, and using modes to their max potential :)

Speed (power?) mode is much better than cloak. Cloaking all the time leaves you no energy for fights, unless you rely on the energy transfer "trick" to remain cloaked all the time, which is kinda boring IMO

I wrote a thread like yours, but now my opinion of stealth and energy mode has changed. I nearly never use stealth mode now, I'm running in energy mode and somtimes in armor (armor enhance increases your movement speed in armor mode, which is nice. :)) mode. I don't even know anymore how I could play with stealth mode, it's nearly useless lol. :<

Crysis 2 doesn't have speed mode. Speed mode makes C2's power mode look like a light jog.

The more I replay Crysis and Warhead, the more I think the N2 is so much worse. It trades everythign in for the sake of 'streamlining'.

If someone says, speed mode (sprint) is useless, he probably never played Capture the relay....mobility enhance, stealth enhance III and Energy Transfer (or Nano recharge) and you can outrun everyone else while still being cloaked....

Um, no. You can't outrun anyone; because that's the losdout pretty much everyone uses.

I agree....the REAL speed mode only lasted like 3 seconds, but you could cover like 200 meters. But would it be too good in multiplayer?
And IMO strength mode was borderline pointless and has no place in C2. Powerjumping and power-melee have been implemented fairly well into C2, no Strength Mode required.

Orly? I'm wondering why I'm able to outrun most of the other players then....maybe there are no players with this setup on the servers I play on ...

If you've never met anyone with that setup you're either playing with idiots who love to lose.. or you're wrong.

Not this multiplayer, because the maps are too small. But with bigger maps it works.

The whole point of strength mode is that you needed to use it to pull of those jumps. It's part of what made you feel like a supersoldier. Now it just feels like the gravity is turned down.

Strength mode should have been required for a 2-hit melee kill, with it being 4 hits normally, and should be required for super jumps instead of everyone jumping around like frogs.

If we had normal sprint it would be simple to still get a runup on a power jump.

I never said that I never met someone with this setup....oh, wait. In the second sentence I did. ^^'

And I wouldn't call them idiots, but I myself am not very good, so I'm most found on noob-servers....

Well, you still need the "strength mode" to pull of those jumps, and you can jump normally too. if the normal melee would require 4 hits to kill then no one would ever use it.

well a normal human can't jump up on a truck trailer and land on feet right or a ship container? The energy drain is too much though and sprint was fun cause it could kill ya!

Yes, that is the point.

It just feels like in multiplayer your much, much safer by spawning and then going straight into stealth mode then to bother using speed, as the combat is all very CQC I just feel safer being invisible as much as possible and then popping out and getting an opponent by surprised oposeds to running out in the iopen.

agree with speed mode, disagree with strength
i liked the thinking of "you are a ubertrained supersuited soldier that picks barrels and throws them 5-7 meters".......MAXIMUM STRENGTH ENGANGED....."now you are ubertrained soldier with uber MAXIMUM STRENGTH that throws barrels RIGHT INTO ENEMYS FACE"

in c2 you still kind of uber with your jump and stuff but the problem is: everbody is, the whole time.
