Does it still rain through Bridges and Shelters?

Post » Fri Sep 09, 2011 6:59 am

Has Bethesda finally fixed the rain? By that I mean, hiding under a bridge way or rock formation, the rain still goes through them. I can understand tents, because it's full of holes, but under a bridge or rock formation? Trying to roll play not getting wet like I would in reall life, I would hide from the elements but you can't in Morrowind and Oblivion. So I wonder if it will still be the same in Skyrim. I can't remember if this was commented on by the Devs saying they fixed it or not.

Something minor but after 10 years from Morrowind, wich I thought would have been fixed in Oblivion and was saddend they didn't. Do you would think Bethesda has lernt something new and fixed this small anoying problem?

I wouldn't say that. :P They didn't fix it in Oblivion so maybe it's not so easy fix for them.

Wasn't it confirmed eons ago that snow would land on objects and accumulate in piles? If snow can do that, I would bet that rain won't fall through stuff.

I think it's currently expected not to have been fixed. First clue is them dodging the question about this at quakecon (I think?) and second clue is Todd deciding to jump off that tower in leaked quakecon demo vid instead of walking down again after he'd caused the rain by storm dragon shout. Nothing confirmed though far as I know, and not VERY strong clues

A recent preview article pretty much suggested it doesn't do that. They said something about animals and NPC's taking shelter during rain. If Beth went that far, I doubt the rain clipping is still a problem.

I heard during an interview somewhere (I'll try to find my source) that Todd said weather is extremely dynamic. When it snows, the ground slowly becomes covered in more and more snow, and if there's something obstructing its path to the ground (tree branches, rock formations, bridges, overhangs on houses) the snow won't fall there. If that's true, then I'm sure the rain issue would be fixed as well.

Don't take my word on it though. I'll try to find my source, unless someone beats me to it. So don't get too excited yet. :s

Since the snow collects and "paints" the surfaces it land upon, I'd imagine rain will collide with any surface, at least I hope...

im pretty sure they already confirmed long ago that its been fixed... the new engine really helps with that.

rain and snow will detect objects around the game world and react accordingly to them, they've mentioned how snow accumulates on objects dynamically this time around, too.

using the snow actually falling and resting on objects rather then a preset graphic, hopefully the rain is actual rain or at least more then just an overlay.

edit: typos

Yeah, it would be tragic if the animals actually took cover under something, only to have the rain hit them anyway.

Oooh, you picked up on something there - I'd love to see animals (and people too!) react differently to the elements. Less people outside wandering around when it's raining, etc.

During rain the animals will hide in their burrows, and people go to the roof and dry clothes.
