it's not bad, but they say the same line over and over which is just stupid. I know obsidian could of easily fixed this.

It's a one liner. Of which there are a lot more than just that one, spoken by non-essential NPCs (of which there are also a lot of). That is hardly bad dialogue.

But more importantly: Where the hell did you run into the Veteran Rangers? I've only seen them at the very end of the game right before the credits roll. I want that freaking armor! ><

Um...that's not "dialog." That's no-name NPC pvssyr, and it's pretty much of the same quality it was in Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Annoying, yes. stop me from trying to play? nope.

Another thing I find, annoying, and lacking, is the lack of people saying things like "Watch it" when running over clutter, or when crouched and pointing at somone so i get the "steal" activation option, or locked door, no one mentioned anything about it like they did in Fallout 3.

But meh, not game breaking. Theres plenty of other things taking care of that department.

The part I find interesting is that other RPGs don't do it any better, and if they removed it entirely I doubt anyone would complain. Let's see, what can we find to complain about next...how about silly hats? Lots of silly hats in this game...rabble rabble rabble...

You find the LACK of it annoying? Personally, the inclusion of it annoyed me. It wouldn't have bothered me quite as much if it actually had factored into a sneak attempt though.

It's amazing to walk through an NCR camp and without trying to talk to anyone they will tell you that patrolling the Mojave almost makes them wish for a nuclear winter. Where I come from people usually don't start conversations with strangers like that out of the blue. But then again I don't live locked away in someone's basemant, either. :D

A lot of people didn't like it but I thought it added a certain intelligence to the npcs - it felt like they were paying some attention to what you are doing or might be looking to do. It's tricky in one sense that you might just be in a shop looking around and getting warned about taking an item when you had no intention of doing so or just happened to be looking in that direction but it did make the npcs seem a little more alert to their environment and you.

I certainly miss it in FV.

If we're [censored]ing about sound, how about the radio that plays the same 4 songs on the 360 OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

That's
annoying, no-name pvssyr, no so much.

The dialouge is MUCH better than in 3. In terms of players that you can actually interact with at least. The NPC seem to actually have personalities and all seem like individual people rather than just "good" and "evil" like it was in 3.

The lack of people saying things like "Watch it" doesnt bother me in the least. I mean I could stare at a pencil and then people would tell me to "Watch It". Also, I dont know about you but I actually have enough common sense to know that you shouldnt steal peoples stuff while there standing right there, I make shure that theres nobody around when I'm about to pick a safe. Maybe it they caught me in the act of it then it would make sense. But "Oh no, you looked at my safe, that means your going to murder me and take everything I own!!!! You thieving bastard."? No. That makes NO sense whatsoever

Oh God, I hated that in fallout 3.

YES THAT IS LOCKED AND YES I CAN SEE YOU EYING IT.

Like holy [censored], even at 10 charisma and very good karma, they'd bust your balls for looking in the general direction of a locked cabinet.

The veteran armor looks dumb as hell. It looks coolish on the upper body but then it's just plain jeans on the bottom.

You know, karma could be a good way of implementing it in the future - good karma or upwards and npcs don't make those types of comments - anything below that ranges from friendly warnings to downright forceful warnings for the lowest karma.

my ONLY PROBLEM with this is that everybody says the same exact line. they have different voice actors, they pay the different voice actors, but they don't have the different voice actors say different variation of that line? like seriously how hard would it be to tell one guy to record "sure is really [censored] hot out here".

that said, it's not really BAD, it's just cheesy as hell. every game on this engine requires at least one memorable line, though, something that'll be repeated for years to come.

The funniest thing I saw was when Stanton and 2 other BoS recruits spawned into the same body and 2 of them started telling Rex that there had been trouble on the strip. Why did they make so many NPCs talk to the dog? It just looks stupid when Rex has to stop every 5 feet and hear about the "Nuclear Winter."

Those one-liners are all right. Don't bother me. Only thing with voices that have bothered me have been Ghouls ending conversations with "Later" or "Bye" in completely different, normal voices.

Spoiler
Those, and Anders hanging from his cross near the Legion camp. When I approached he looked at me and offered up a very cheery, "Hey!" Ha ha. Then when I engaged in convo it was all in a sore throat type, "Urgh, please, help me." :) S'a funny ol' game world.

I agree, all they needed was like, 10 more sound files of people from different factions saying SOMETHING ELSE. I actually did a Powder Ganger Quest, the Gecko Clearing one in the Vault, and it was refreshing to hear the different sound bites they have. Why not add this to others as well? I swear the NCR are the worst offenders for repetition.

In movies like Employee of the Month and others the comedians will sometimes just ad lib stream of concious one liners and the director picks one for the scene. You can see this in the Extras on the DVD. They could higher some comedians, does not have to be famous ones. Imerse them in the lore, have them come up with a bunch one liners, narrow it down to 20 or 30 good ones. Then, have the voice actors speak them as lines. The Nuclear Winter was funny the first couple of times, but it gets stale. LIke the jokes by the Billy Crystal like droid at the strip. Heck, Obsidian obviously have the chops to come up with the jokes and random utterings.

They could have expened a little more effort, or a few more bucks.
