Does the 'Fiery Soul Trap' enchantment's Soul Trap effect wo

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:52 am

I have tried enchanting both a http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim%3aSilver_Greatsword (described in-game as "Especially effective against the Undead") and http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim%3aThe_Longhammer#The_Longhammer (described in-game as "Rahd's hammer, the reduced weight allows it to be swung more quickly") with the Fiery Soul Trap enchantment (which is also a unique enchantment in itself, in that it contains two effects in one enchantment: 10 pts. Fire Damage, and Soul Trap), but in my many attempts to use both, they aren't able to absorb any souls.

I checked if I have spare empty Soul Gems of the appropriate size, and I do. I always try to deal the killing blow, but I don't get the captured soul animation nor do I notice my Soul Gems filling up. When I enchant, I use a Black Soul Gem with a Grand Soul inside, and set the Soul Trap effect to '2 seconds'. The Fire Damage effect of Fiery Soul Trap is fixed at 10 pts. The enchanted item gives that purple glow (meaning that it has been enchanted) and its Fire Damage enchantment seems to work fine (enemies are lit on fire).

Note that both weapons already have unique effects but can still be enchanted. Also, in a normal weapon with no unique properties, you don't need the 'http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim%3aEnchanting' Enchanting perk (can put two enchantments on the same item) to enchant with Fiery Soul Trap (both Fire Damage and Soul Trap will still work fine).

Is this because the Fiery Soul Trap enchantment's Soul Trap effect won't work properly on enchant-able items that already have unique effects? If yes, is there a workaround for this (other methods, console commands or mods) that can force 'Fiery Soul Trap' to work on these weapons?

Edit: I'm using the mods: http://baldurdash.org/TESSkyrim/USKPFixList.html, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4719 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6047.http://baldurdash.org/TESSkyrim/USKPFixList.html. My full http://tinypaste.com/f9456e44.

I don't think it's Fiery Soult-Trap that is to blame here but rather the items themselves. I know for a fact that all Silver weapons are incomplete as far as smithing goes. It would'nt surprise me if they were incomplete for enchanting as well.

It would be interesting to test out enchanting on Wuuthrad as well, I'm pretty sure that I had it on me once when I was at the enchanting table and it showed up in the list of things I could enchant if I wanted to. I was really surprised since it already has its own special properties, much like one of the silver swords... not an enchantment but it's already sort of "magical" in its own way. I didn't enchant it because it just seemed wrong to use Ysgramor's axe to level up my skill, lol, so I can't say whether or not doing so would actually work.

I called it the "SissyAxe" and gave it a 1 point frost enchant

Really? I just kept calling it "Wuuthrad" and gave it to every hostile elf and/or Thalmor agent I could find, business end first.

It just so happens I have a Nord character with a firey soul trapped silversword and it absorbed souls fine. Do you have empty soul gems?

I'm using the http://baldurdash.org/TESSkyrim/USKPFixList.html which should fix the Smithing issue with Silver Weapons. Except for this case, I don't remember Silver Weapons having issues with enchanting effects.

I have checked if I have empty soul gems. I don't get the normal 'captured soul' animation neither. Do you have the one-handed Silver Sword or a Silver Greatsword? How many seconds did you set Fiery Soul Trap's soul trap effect? My character's a Breton.

I tested this and it worked fine for me. Both weapons have messed up enchantment descriptions, but both applied fire damage and trapped souls. I would guess one of your mods is conflicting with the enchantment.
The only difference to my test was I used normal Grand souls gems instead of Black gems, but I doubt this would change the outcome.

You could try experimenting without the weapon mod.

Yeah, I suspect the USKP on this one. I'm running some smithing related mods myself. Namely: Legenday Smithing, More Craftables, and Lost Art of the Blacksmith. If I have time later I'll try to duplicate the issue. OP, what version of Skyrim are you running? 1.5 or 1.6b?

Do you also have USKP, Weapons and Armor FIxes or Smithing Perks Overhaul?

I tested it with no downloaded mods, and just spawned the weapons with the console. I have 100 enchanting with Extra Effect, and Aspect of Terror which makes the set +10 Fire Damage +15, but none of that should have any bearing.
I cannot see the enchantment displayed on the weapons - they have their own unique descriptions - but both effects do get applied on hit. I filled every tier of empty soul gem in my inventory with both weapons - so it works perfectly for me.

If you weren't getting the fire damage applied to the mob, I'd say you might be out of charge and the charge bar on the weapon may not register it, but since you're getting fire without soul trap I don't know.
It's probably fixable, though, if you want it bad enough to find out what's causing it (probably a mod).
