Does the game continue running when the App is deactivated?

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 6:22 am

I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like when I close down the App and turn off my iPad the game keeps running it's allotted tasks.

I think running in background mode is a potential cause of killing all my Vault residents, as at least once today it has nearly done, the game gave them radiation poisoning in roughly 3 hours because they ran out of water.

Up until now, I had been assuming the game stopped when I turned it off, but if this is not the case, it's going to get problematic very fast.

I can't spend every hour of the night and day supervising the Vault.

If the game is designed to enter a failure state during times it is unattended, then it will become annoying and useless very fast.

You can't have a Vault without population after all.

Can anyone confirm if the App keeps running when it is not supposed to?

It does sometimes (and it looks like for certain people). Just exit to the main menu or quit instead of minimizing.

if your ising an ipad, when you exit the app, you have to double click the home button then swipe up on the screenshot of the app, otherwise it will continue to run in the background.

i'm in the habit of doing this Every time i close out an app.

another way to be sure you logged out is to hit the gears icon in the lower right during the game and it brings up the options and then you choose main menu.

the help section just told me "the vault continues to use resources for a short time after logging out". i'm assuming that means that for a set period of time, if you log out correctly, it still drains rez, but then it freeses the meters for when you want to come back.

I did both those things just now, but 1 minute later the message flashed up that a production room was ready for collecting even though I thought the Vault was offline.

I hope they don't consume too many resources until the game shuts down properly (I don't want to risk starting the app again to check).

I presume it sends time stamps for the notifications.

Thus, the notifications can come in even though the game is not running.

The game for example knows when the room will be ready if no player input is made, or when an explorer returns.

This would be the reason why some people experiment with system time.

It seems that if the game is correctly shut down (!), only a certain amount of consumption is precalculated which then is the state you will return to. This is probably to counter tactics of shutting the game down when ressources are low to wait for rooms to finish, which makes sense.
