Does the Pip Boy edition have any in-game bonuses?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:48 am

I'm not requesting it, I'm just wondering.

I live in Canada, which means that my Pip-Boy Edition won't arrive for at least a WEEK after release, which I find completely unacceptable.

So I have also digitally pre-ordered it, and I plan to give my Pip-Boy Edition game key to a friend. (And keep the physical goodies for myself, of course)

Is there anything I ought to know before I implement this little plan?

Would I be missing out on anything if I decided to use the digital pre-order key in place of the Pip Boy Edition?

Not really no.....you can still use the PipBoy app without the PipBoy edition....that seems to let you do some simple stuff like use stimpacks and radaways from your phone instead of pulling your character's pipboy up on the tv screen. I doubt anyone will actually use the app to do that at all after maybe once or twice for kicks and it's not exclusive to the pipboy edition anyway.

meh, ill probably be using the app for the map, inventory, and status of my body parts in-game. It will probably be better considering you might not be able to freeze the game with your pip boy anymore, so it might just be that little edge in battles and such.

Sounds useful in theory but picking up your controller takes longer than pressing a button to put down your in game pipboy and if you don't have a pipboy edition for your phone or aren't wearing it that will also likely involve dropping your phone and/or controller. Do it a couple of times for novelty to get it out of your system and that'll likely be the end of that.

I'm making this my life goal. The ONLY way to play Fallout 4 is with the Pipboy. ( I can achieve this )

Don't drop your controllers too often! Seriously though.....to keep unlocking your phone every few minutes will get annoying quick as will putting down and picking up the controller. Nice idea but it's not going to work.

Unless of course it, like other apps, override the shutdown thing so ya don't need to fiddle that while the app runs.

If you put on your Pip-boy, click your heels 3 times and say, "There's no place like Boston." You'll be transported into the game. Does that count for in-game bonus?

Baseless speculation lol...

EDIT: in all seriousness though, I'm sure the devs would have taken all of this into account

If it does that then good luck putting your phone out to charge every hour or two.....more painful with pipboy edition. Still not really doable.

It would be far more useful if you could use the app offline then send the data to your game for next time you play.

Ya seem to think Beth threw this together at a whim in one months time, I'm sure all sorts of things have been covered, so it's gonna be doable, it's up to each one I'd they wanna do it or not.

I agree! All it requires is for the app to be correctly optimised, and for a standby mode to be implemented with a dimmed screen when it's not being used.

Covered how? They can either let your phone lock or its battery will drain quite fast....the app doesn't prolongue battery life. Likewise they can't improve player handling for deathclaw scares and such because some dude decided to put down the controller to fiddle with the phone app and then dropped everything while trying to grab the controller in a hurry. You can be surprise-attacked when using the in-game pipboy but you can put that down by pressing a button.....having your phone in your hand or on your arm and trying to grab the controller in a hurry can go all sorts of wrong and if you stick with it long enough will go all sorts of wrong....hopefully nothing breaks but still....they can't do anything about someone dropping their phone or something like that.

Pff n00bs put down there controller, pros hold on to there controller and just leaves a finger free to work the pip boy, that way you can shift back to a proper two hand grip on the fly.

For the love of pete man. If you doubt its going to be worth it. Then never download it on your phone and dont worry about it. You're so crazy about putting your controller down, learn to play on a real platform *PC MASTER RACE!!!* lol

But seriously you're over thinking shiz.

A mouse and keyboard are substantially worse than any controller I ever used.....even if I played this on PC, controller is still the only way to go.

Particularly as the home buttons will be inaccessible whilst in the Pip-Boy.

Sat-Nav apps stay on.
