There are all kinds of spears/polearms/halberds in the art video. If they're not in, this is cruel and unusual punishment from Bethesda.

Exactly. I have not seen a single halberd or spear in any concept art, simply long handled axes. Also, we have two "pole arm" threads and one "spear" thread. I think the spear thread is distinct, but this is one too many.

My gut tells me yes.

They are not unaware of this burning, near decade old desire to see pole-arms return. They know this is a thing. Todd poked fun at us about it in the Interview video.

So if they KNOW how bad we want it, would they really include those images without realizing, "Damn! We scrapped that idea 3 years ago, why didn't someone take those down! I mean for Vivic's sake!! This was supposed to be an ART video and you S'wits couldn't come up with some actual art that made it into the actual game?! Fired."

No. I don't buy that nonsense at all. They chose the art to showcase, it's just common sense.

Welcom back, Halbreds. We've missed you.

It means the artists have concept art depicting halberds.

And as they said in the video, they take that concept art right to the development team to be modeled into the game. :)

You must be looking at different art then.

It looks like they're in to me but I'm not going to get too excited until I get solid confirmation

People seem to think concept art equals final design.

Concept art/design is one of the first things that is put down quite early in a development process. It is just to provide something visual tangibility to an idea, and if gets approved it'll make it easier for 3D modelers to work on how to translate the 2D visuals into what we eventually see in the finished game.

Not everything you see in concept art will be included in a finished product. In fact almosy 80% of it get scrapped along the way.

But I still hope polearms are in, I just don't base the fact whether it's confirmed or not, on concept art alone.

It is curious that the weapon in that one image was shadowed out.

I have a strong feeling that polearm weapons will be included under the Two-Hand weapon skill.

Where is the picture of the spear, or of the halberd, exactly? I've seen bardiches, and two handed axes.

Well, just because we see concept art doesnt mean its in the game. We haven't gotten any word on it yet.

Better to assume no and then be pleasantly surprised.

Odd because that is in the game, you can see it being used by the zombie looking dudes in the game informer article. On the opposite page it a small pic where it show that. But its just a long handled axe, which really is what a halberd is anyway esp you there is no tip to thrust.

Oblivion concept art containing a spear: http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/3318/338913-screenshot2_super.jpg

Nevertheless, we've got a few instances of Skyrim's concept art containing halberds/spears, so I'm not without hope.

Nice comparison. Now my hopes are there will be more poleweapon types than the spear and halberd.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2086/ss20110126190244.png is a simple halberd, much like example http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/82/Halberds_3.png.

Actually, I was wrong. I took a closer look and that blade is much longer than I thought, so that's definitely a bardiche.
