Doesn't Tamriel seem like a real place almost?

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 6:02 am

After playing all the TES games for so long, along with the epicness of the theme music, doesn't Tamriel feel like a real place, somewhere out there, since in the games you see so much of everything and it's so realistic, that it feels like a real faraway land?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H7kjsRQG-k&feature=related That really makes it feel real.
Anyone else agree?

Oh yes. And we feed it constantly. It's like Vivec, he needs the peoples prayers to have enough powers.

It's great

Between the games and this forum there is a constant exercise in the suspension of disbelief. Eventually it's no longer an exercise and your disbelief is simply suspended. Then you're trapped.

It is a VERY developed IP, with lots of background information you'll find neglected in a lot of other games and mediums.

You're building worlds, Kalarn? I wanted to start a good thread discussion about building worlds---what works, what doesn't, what separates a well-made one from a poorly developed one. But I really need to be in the moment of inspiration to write a good opening post about that sort of thing. And that inspiration hasn't hit me. Perhaps because I haven't been building any worlds lately.

In any case, it is one of my favorite creative exercises. Usually I do them for my stories, but it would be great to see one effectively translated into a published book or game some day...

When building worlds, I recommend keeping c, G, and h constant. Things get messy otherwise.

That'd be the speed of light, the gravitational constant, and (I'm assuming) Planck's constant, which is the proportionality between the energy of a particle and the frequency of its waveform.

Or perhaps they're sigils in Ehlnofex that alter, move, or compose creatia. They'd be much less "constant" then.

I made a world-building thread a while back in the community forum actually, generated quite a bit of interesting discussion too. Just searched far and wide for it, but it seems it's been culled. Anyway, please start a new one in the community forum and I will be very happy to participate, as I am a massively obsessed world builder myself.

edit - I'm just gonna go ahead and start it myself actually, I'll post the link in here...

I remember we had a world building contest a while back, was that you?
edit1: No wait, you are too young for that thread. Nvm. We had that thread before the '08 election.
